Despite his own secret emails noting he’d be getting big bucks in 2016 if he didn’t run for Congress this year, tea partyer Chip Maxwell insists he didn’t cut any deals.
NO GO: Tea partyer Chip Maxwell is out of the 2014 Omaha House race.
As Nebraska Watchdog first reported exclusively Thursday, Maxwell—who says he picked up the 2,000 signatures needed to put his name on the November ballot—is out, leaving incumbent Republican Lee Terry one-on-one with Democrat Brad Ashford.
In a July 1 email obtained by Nebraska Watchdog— it was marked “CONFIDENTIAL”— Maxwell said he was “standing down for 2014.”
Six days later in a second “CONFIDENTIAL” email he talked up the future, a future where cash would not be a problem.
“In the follow-up meeting with the guys who made some bold declarations about fundraising and winning in 2016, I wondered if they would back off, ” wrote Maxwell. “Instead, they doubled down. $100,000 in the bank by Jan 15, 2015. No problem getting 200 contributors at the $2,600 maximum by the end of 2015.”
Maxwell went on to claim that his cash would have a different look.
“Not the Ak-Sar-Ben crowd, but CEOs and business owners who reject Terry and business-as-usual Republican politics.”
As for any “deals”, Maxwell goes one-on-one (see video below) with Nebraska Watchdog’s Joe Jordan.
