Speaker Of The House John Boehner To Make Fundraising Stop In North Dakota
Earlier this month Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell visited Bismarck, invited there by Senator John Hoeven. Now I’m told Speaker of the House John Boehner will be in Bismarck, fundraising for Rep. Kevin Cramer.
The event will be happening this Friday, August 15th, at former NDGOP Chairman Gary Emineth’s home in Lincoln (just south of Bismarck).
A Republican reader who sent me the information about the visit asked if it was a sign that Republicans think Cramer is in trouble. That seems unlikely.
Congressional leadership making recess visits to help out their fellow party members and their state parties is pretty normal, especially during the long August recess, though it’s worth noting that Cramer has come in slightly behind Sinner in the last two fundraising periods (though he maintains a heavy overall fundraising advantage).
The Cramer campaign probably isn’t keen on letting Democrat challenger George Sinner make any more hay over that sort of thing.
Still, Sinner is way behind not just Cramer in fundraising this cycle, but where Democrat Pam Gulleson was in her 2012 House campaign.
Boehner’s visit is no doubt routine, but expect Cramer to make sure he beats Sinner in fundraising this reporting cycle.
