Port: I’m worried that some left-wing enemies of income tax cuts are innumerate
MINOT, N.D. — One of the challenges in politics, when evaluating many of the arguments made, is discerning whether those making them believe what they’re saying, or if they’re promoting poppycock because it just happens to fit with a preferred narrative.
The “stolen election” foolishness, as one example, has many proponents who, because we know they are not stupid people, are merely promoting it because it riles certain political bases, which is good for fundraising, clicks, ratings, etc., etc.
Another example, more locally, is the talking point that’s emerged in the wake of an income tax cut proposal in the Legislature. Gov. Doug Burgum and a group of Republican lawmakers have proposed eliminating the income tax for most North Dakotans.
