Port: At the Legislature, some hypocrisy over ‘sanctuary’ policies when it comes to guns and people
MINOT, N.D. — Yesterday, the state House of Representatives passed, by a wide margin, House Bill 1155 .
The bill, introduced by freshman Rep. Matt Heilman, a Republican from Bismarck, makes it illegal for the state of North Dakota, or any of its political subdivisions of institutions, to institute a sanctuary policy for people who are not in this country legally.
Verboten, if this bill becomes law, would be any policies that “prohibits an individual from communicating or cooperating with federal agencies or officials to verify or report the immigration status of an individual” or “a noncitizen unlawfully present in the United States the right to lawful presence or status within the state, a political subdivision, or the institution of higher education.”
