Obama Lies About Increasing Oil Production On Federal Land


During tonight’s debate between Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama there was a serious bone of contention between the two candidates over domestic oil production in response to a question about gas prices. Obama said domestic oil production is up, even over Bush-era production, but Romney said it’s actually down on federal lands where the president’s policies have the most impact.

Obama accused Romney of not telling the truth, but the Republican is right. Under Obama oil production on federal hit a nine-year low, declining 40% over the level 10 years ago.

Permitting on federal land takes an atrociously long time under Obama as well.

Update: Per the comments, the chart above is for total fossil fuels and not oil production on federal lands specifically. That’s a fair point, but it still doesn’t make Obama right. Here’s oil and gas production on federal lands compared to production in ND:
