Biden’s new ‘ghost gun’ regulations are a meaningless bit of political theater
MINOT, N.D. — This week I read an article about a bunch of gun control activists in the Fargo-Moorhead area getting together to perform plays about gun violence .
I thought it was fitting. So much of the debate over guns is meaningless theater. Calculated dramatics perpetrated by political thespians that are long on form and short on substance.
Guns are just a tool used by people who, for reasons ranging from mental health issues and poverty to substance abuse and just plain old malice, have turned to violence. Guns don’t cause crime, but they’re easier to talk about than why people are poor or depressed or evil.
And speaking of theater, President Joe Biden just put on a one-act play about ghost guns in the White House Rose Garden. “Take a look. Take a look at this,” he told the collected news media , referencing a scary “ghost gun” put on display. Biden’s administration is going to ban the sale of do-it-yourself gun kits as an initiative against gun crime.
This won’t accomplish anything, and I’ll explain why in a moment.
