Ashford poll: He’s tied with GOP’s struggling Lee Terry

GOP Congressman Lee Terry’s bid for a ninth term is in serious jeopardy, according to a poll released by Terry’s Democratic rival, Brad Ashford.
Rep. Lee Terry
The survey finds Terry and Ashford in a dead heat with a solid majority of voters unhappy with the job Terry is doing.
Adding to Terry’s struggle is the absence of Tea Partier Chip Maxwell in the poll. Political insiders on both sides of the aisle expect Maxwell, who is pushing to get his name on the November ballot, to take a chunk of votes from Terry.
So here’s the numbers:
Terry (R) 41%
Ashford (D) 41%
Laird (Libertarian) 4%
In addition 63 percent of those questioned give Terry a negative job rating. The pollster, Global Strategy Group, says “voters are eager for an alternative” to Terry.
The poll comes on the heels of Terry’s lackluster win in the GOP primary where he managed a six-point win over upstart Dan Frei despite outspending Frei 20-1.
The poll of 400 likely voters was taken in the last week and has a margin of error of 5 percent.
Terry’s campaign was not immediately available for comment.
