North Dakota's March Unemployment Rate: 2.6%, Down From 3% A Year Ago

No surprises in the latest job numbers for North Dakota. Unemployment remains at a rock-bottom low. In fact, it went a bit lower in March of 2014 compared to a year ago.

In March of 2014 the state’s unemployment seasonally-adjusted rate was 2.6 percent. That’s down from 3 percent in Mach of 2013.

The seasonally-adjusted rate for the nation in March of 2014 was 6.7 percent, down from 7.5 percent a year ago.

In North Dakota, the biggest job market problem isn’t a lack of jobs but a lack of workers. As I wrote last month, North Dakota actually has more jobs than unemployed people.

“North Dakota’s rate of unemployed persons per job opening was 0.6 in December 2013, the latest month for which data are available,” read a March report from North Dakota Job Service.
