Pelosi, Clinton queens of the Victim State

Woe is Hillary. Poor Pelosi.

The two most powerful women in the Democratic Party are crying foul over what they insist is a double standard for women in power — an injustice perpetrated by the media.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is doing everything she can to run for president except publicly declare that she is running for president, started the sob story last week at a women’s forum in New York. Clinton lamented the media and others as the biggest propagator of the imbalance.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi picked up the resentment torch a day later, decrying what the California liberal sees as disparate treatment.

“Let me just say as one who has been speaker of the House, I’ve had to have a very thick skin about every kind of thing that was thrown at me,” she said.

Now, it appears, the media has made it into Axis of Evil in the “War on Women.”

This, of course, is the same mainstream media, in the main, that failed to ask then-Secretary of State Clinton a single substantive question about her department’s handling of a 2012 terrorist attack on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, that led to the death of a U.S. ambassador, another diplomat and two embassy security officers.

This, of course, is the same indignant Pelosi who couldn’t comprehend why conservative media outlets in particular might take issue with her now-infamous statement on Obamacare, that “We have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” A few years later, Pelosi again couldn’t understand the criticism after she told NBC’s Meet the Press host David Gregory that there was such a rush to get the controversial health care act passed that she and fellow Obamacare proponents didn’t see the “unintended effects of this that were foreseen at the time, that you couldn’t know the impact of, and that now this is coming home to roost?”

Why, someone’s got to be the victim, and Pelosi and Clinton fit the bill.

Their decisions, their policies, their approaches to power obviously have nothing to do with the criticism these very high profile women have borne over the course of their political careers. It’s all an unjust “double-standard” being perpetrated against them because they are women who happen to be powerful.

Just more victimhood from the pity Party, but this time the “victims” are at the top rung of the political power ladder.

Frankly, a lot of Americans are growing tired of the Victim State, a land where everyone is aggrieved, everyone is owed something, and no one is responsible for her actions.

As the 2014 campaign season kicks into high gear, let’s at least bring out some fresh “victims” in the liberal “War On” public relations machine. Here are a few Clinton, Pelosi and crew may have overlooked.

• The “War on Reality Show Divas.” These tragic housewives are victims of a right-wing plot to oppress them in their Mimosa-scented gated communities. No wonder these poor victims behave so badly. How could they not?
• The “War on Home Décor and Accents.” Have you seen the prices at Pottery Barn lately? Talk about oppressive.
• The “War on Rob Ford.” Sure he’s Canadian. But the media’s incessant assault on this crack-smoking Toronto mayor should be a lesson to us all. No victim is safe — even outside the Victim State.
• The “War on Stephen Colbert.” The faux conservative’s phony and funny nightly “Report” is a victim of his own success — and, apparently, Comedy Central’s marketing staff.
• The “War on War.” What gets a worse rap than war? Pestilence? Not even close. Famine? Perhaps, but that’s so mid-1980s Live Aid. War, per capita, could be the biggest victim in the Victim State.
