Democrats Don't Like The Term "Obamacare" Any More

The use of the term “Obamacare” to describe the Affordable Care Act has up and down history on the left. First calling it that was racist. Then President Obama said last year that once the law took effect, critics wouldn’t want to call it Obamacare any more so that he wouldn’t get credit.

It seemed Obama himself was taking ownership of the term.

Now, months into what is been a disastrous rollout of the law, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi would like you to know that calling it Obamacare is inappropriate again:

The way these people attempt to control the language of the political debate is downright Orwellian at times.

And I’m not sure calling it the Affordable Care Act is any improvement on the optics of the law for Democrats. The idea that the law has made much of anything more affordable for the Americans hit by it would be funny if it weren’t hurting people:

Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration. …

The industry complaints come less than a week after Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to downplay concerns about rising premiums in the healthcare sector. She told lawmakers rates would increase in 2015 but grow more slowly than in the past. …

Her comment baffled insurance officials, who said it runs counter to the industry’s consensus about next year.

“It’s pretty shortsighted because I think everybody knows that the way the exchange has rolled out … is going to lead to higher costs,” said one senior insurance executive who requested anonymity.

The insurance official, who hails from a populous swing state, said his company expects to triple its rates next year on the ObamaCare exchange.
