LINCOLN, Neb. – Attorney General Jon Bruning said Tuesday he’s back working full time after being diagnosed with colon cancer and having surgery in early December to remove a portion of his colon and surrounding lymph nodes.

“I feel great,” he said during a press conference to unveil his legislative package of bills. “I feel like I’ve got a new lease on life.”
The cancer was discovered during a Nov. 25 colonoscopy that Bruning showed up on the wrong day to have. They went ahead and did the test and found a cancerous polyp the size of a thumb.
“They said I would be dead at 50 if they hadn’t taken it out,” said Bruning, who’s 44.
During surgery 8 inches of his colon and 23 lymph nodes were removed and tested, but were not cancerous.
“I feel like I got off pretty lucky,” he said. “I’m upright.”
