Not Enough Secret Service Personnel For White House Tours, But Plenty For A Party
The scandal-plagued Obama administration isn’t canceling plans for yet another star-studded party at the White House, despite canceling tours of the presidential residence earlier this year claiming sequester spending reductions made it mandatory.
Later this month the President and First Lady will play host to Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Carole King and more:
As part of their “In Performance at the White House” series, the President and First Lady will host a concert in the East Room honoring singer-songwriter Carole King, who will be awarded the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. President Obama will present the award as he did when the Library of Congress honored Stevie Wonder (2009), Sir Paul McCartney (2010), and the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David (2012). The program will include performances by King, as well as Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, Jesse McCartney, Emeli Sandé, James Taylor and Trisha Yearwood.
You’ve got to love the priorities. Even if we stipulate to the idea that the sequester spending reductions, which were really just a slow-down in the rate of spending growth, were as terrible as the Obama administration wants us to believe, shouldn’t the President and First Lady’s parties be the first to go? And then the tours of the White House for school kids and the public come somewhere after that?
