ABC News Conveniently Edits Michelle Obama's Reference To Automatic Weapon

Appearing in ABC News recently, First Lady Michelle Obama blamed the shooting of teenager in Chicago on an “automatic weapon.”

Unfortunately, that wasn’t accurate, the weapon used according to the police report was a handgun:

In an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts aired this morning, First Lady Michelle Obama recalled the tragic death of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton who was shot and killed in Chicago after performing during the President’s Inauguration celebration in Washington D.C.

“She was caught in the line of fire because some kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need,” the First Lady explained. “I just don’t want to keep disappointing our kids in this country. I want them to know that we put them first.”

Chicago police reported, however, that Pendleton was shot by a man who “opened fire with a handgun before fleeing in a waiting car.”

As is pointed out at the link, ABC edited out the First Lady’s reference to an “automatic weapon” in their broadcast (her words remained unchanged in the web version). That’s convenient for the Obama administration. After all, they’re not trying to ban handguns. The president has specifically declined to make handguns part of his gun control agenda.

Instead the President has focused on so-called “assault weapons,” because they’re scarier or something, despite the fact that handguns are used in far more crimes than rifles.

So the Obama administration can’t let people get the idea that their gun control platform might not actually be about addressing crimes committed by guns but rather about perceptions about certain guns based on their appearances. And they had ABC News to help them out.
