Hennen's Notebook: Planned Parenthood, March For Life And Guns In Church

5

I wonder if Representative Kathy Hawken (RINO – Fargo) remembers what happened to Senator Curtis Olafson? Given her cheer leading this week for the two NDSU professors who were part of dissing legislators by doing an end-around the law on sex-education curriculum in North Dakota, she could face the same fate at election time. She also seemed intent to stick conservatives by sucking up to Planned Parenthood, misleading voters with the long dis proven lie that Planned Parenthood does more “women’s health” than they do abortions (those stats are not hard to find) and being gleefully ignorant to the pesky fact that the state rejected the grant once already. Here is how the Fargo Forum reported her comments on the story this week:

Rep. Kathy Hawken, R-Fargo, said it’s important to find a way forward for the program, which would also provide the teens who agree to participate with information on making healthy decisions, setting goals and other adult skills.

She said the program’s ties to Planned Parenthood earned it undue criticism in the state, despite the fact that the vast majority of the organization’s efforts deal with women’s health availability and education – not just providing abortions.

Still, Hawken said something needs to be done to educate teens here because North Dakota is one of just three states with an increased rate of teen pregnancy.

“I still think that this is a good program, and I am very hopeful that cooler heads will prevail and that Molly and Brandy can continue with their program,” she said. “It’d be a real loss to the community if we can’t – not the dollars, the information. Now, dollars are nice. But if they help one of those kids, that’s a life. There’s no price tag for that.”

Memo for the Planned Parenthood pals Kathy, Molly, and Brandy: Partnerships between a abortion-mill like Planned Parenthood and a tax-payer-funded organization like North Dakota State University is never going to pass muster in North Dakota. And rightfully so.

Our listeners were unimpressed with this lame defense of a misguided use of their tax dollars. Here are some of their comments:

Colleen- “Terribly disappointing!”

Kathy-“Scott, Kathy Hawken, to my knowledge has always been Pro-Death. It is not surprising that she is on a first name basis with the two professors”

Kevin-“Hawken is not a Republican. She’s a useful idiot for the state education cabal!”

Meanwhile, we heard some great stories about hundreds of North Dakota youngsters joining the 500,000 plus at the March for Life event in Washington, D.C. to end the week. They deserve our praise for having the courage to stand up against the 40 years of legalized murder and 56 million aborted babies that have followed the dreadful Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision. High School and College kids on buses for a 26 hour one way trip to stand up for innocent life. Quite the contrast to grown women…1 long time state legislator and 2 academics defending this holocaust at home. My favorite statistic of this years event was the estimate that 80% of the participants in DC were under 20 years of age. That is a very hopeful sign that this long national nightmare is doomed for the ash heap of history. It can’t happen soon enough. I was aware of a Fargo Shanley, a Fargo North and a University of Mary group that were participants. If you heard of any others, please let me know so we can chronicle their trip as well.

I detest the term “gun-free-zone”. What’s worse, it’s brought to you by some ignorant politician who passes a feel good law that only serves to invite the bad guys in with their guns while preventing the good guys from defending innocent lives. The Fargo Forum has chronicled a wonderful security program at Bethel Evangelical Free Church which has a program involving thirty-some professionally trained members led by Pastor Paul Bond, a retired Los Angeles police officer. The program has the support of the Fargo Police Department. This particular program is exempt from the ridiculous law that mandates churches and schools be “gun free zones” because of the training of its members. Thanks to legislation (HB1283) introduced by Representative Kim Koppelman (R-West Fargo), more North Dakota schools and churches might soon be better protected. If it passes, the legislation would allow church and school officials to determine whether concealed weapon permit holders can carry a firearm into the church or school. Then the good guys can level the playing field if, God forbid, the evil of a “Sandy Hook” ever visits a school or church here.
