MINOT, N.D. — The news from the campaign trail is that, in one early-voting state, Gov. Doug Burgum is competitive with some of the most recognizable names in the Republican Party’s presidential field.
Nobody said “who?” when candidates like former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Vice President Mike Pence, jumped into the White House race, but that was the joke when Burgum launched a campaign.
“He’s from North Dakota,” they gibed. “Is that, like, even a real place?”
