Port: New Hampshire poll shows Doug Burgum at 2%, tied with Mike Pence
MINOT, N.D. — Gov. Doug Burgum has struggled to have an impact in national polls since he launched his presidential campaign on June 7.
The surveys have measured him at 0% more often than not. The rolling average maintained by polling aggregator RealClearPolitics.com shows Burgum at 0.3% overall, the lowest of any candidate they’re currently tracking.
But the Burgum campaign has focused its resources on two early-voting states, Iowa and New Hampshire, spending more on ads and marketing than any other candidate.
Dawson Schefter, a consultant for Burgum’s campaign, told me that the low numbers in the national polls are “unsurprising given our focus on Iowa and New Hampshire.” There’s logic to that argument. Burgum isn’t well-known nationally, and what efforts he’s invested into changing that have been focused on just two states.
Now we have a new poll, this one conducted specifically in New Hampshire, and while it’s the best polling number Burgum’s campaign has achieved so far, and it shows him tied with at least one higher-profile candidate, it’s not exactly time to start popping the corks on champagne bottles.
