MINOT, N.D. — I love to read.
I average about a book a week, and often more. Last year I completed 73 books, just to give you a window into my habit.
Most of the books I read are checked out digitally from the Minot Public Library because, I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I could read as much as I do if I had to purchase all of my books. If I’d purchased all the books I read last year, it would have cost me about $1,500.
(This is a great service, by the way. You can access digital books that can be read on e-readers, such as Amazon’s Kindle, for free. Look up the Libby app . Every North Dakota library card works with it, and there’s a wealth of content you can access there.)
The book I’m reading right now is ‘Galatea 2.2’ , a novel by Richard Powers which tells a story about artificial intelligence, with allusions to the myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who made a statue so beautiful he fell in love with it. A relevant read given how much artificial intelligence is in the news of late. It has some sex scenes in it, as did ‘Demon Copperhead,’ the excellent retelling of ‘David Copperfield’ authored by Barbara Kingsolver that I finished last week.
