Bismarck NDGOP gives Senate endorsement to man who lost insurance license amid fraud accusations

MINOT, N.D. — On Wednesday, in District 33, in North Dakota’s coal country, a legislative incumbent, Sen. Jessica Bell, lost the endorsement of the local NDGOP committee in large part because she didn’t support a ban on transgender participation in sports.

Despite her consequential work keeping North Dakota’s largest coal-fired power plant open, saving thousands of jobs in coal country, keeping multiple communities in central North Dakota alive, she was deemed insufficiently conservative because she didn’t support a ban on transgender participation in high school athletics, voting to sustain Gov. Doug Burgum’s veto of the bill.

That this ban was in pursuit of a problem that doesn’t exist in North Dakota, that it amounted to creating government restrictions where none were needed, mattered not one bit to the self-imagined conservative purists who organized her defeat.

Apparently being a conservative doesn’t mean limiting government anymore.

Thursday night, in District 35, which is in the Bismarck area, a man who agreed to surrender his license to sell insurance after an investigation found that a number of his clients were charged over $88,000 for policies they didn’t actually purchase , won the local NDGOP endorsement for state Senate.
