Video: Senator Heitkamp, Who Still Hasn’t Congratulated Senator-Elect Cramer, Delivers Angry and Tearful Farewell Speech
Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s last address on the floor of the U.S. Senate today came off less like a graceful farewell than a not terribly coherent stump speech delivered with tearful emotion and a rambling sort of vitriol. She sounded at times like a peeved schoolmarm lecturing we bad boys and girls about how we have wronged her.
It was not an elegant exit.
But maybe that’s to be expected from someone who (as of a few days ago) still hadn’t called Senator-elect Kevin Cramer for the traditional post-election congratulations. She says she’ll get around to sending him a letter one of these days.
Heitkamp likes to talk a good game about bipartisanship, and removing the rancor from American politics, but it’s always just been words. In practice Heitkamp is petty and vindictive.
Anyway, here’s the video of Heitkamp’s speech if you care to watch a bitter, self-aggrandizing politician try to manufacture a legacy out of a short and inauspicious tenure in Congress:
