Heitkamp’s Opposition to Trump’s Farmer Aid Package Must Not Have Been Polling Well

Senator Heidi Heitkamp has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration’s aid to farmers impacted by tariffs resulting from his on-going efforts to improve America’s trade position in the global markets. “At the end of the day, farmers don’t want a check, they want a market,” she is on the record as saying.

Heitkamp’s allies at the North Dakota Farmer’s Union have also kept up the criticism.

Maybe Heitkamp’s position opposing aid isn’t polling so well for her re-election campaign, because today she just announced legislation to redistribute any federal revenue from new tariffs to farmers:

I guess Heitkamp is telling us that farmers don’t mind a check after all to help them get through some market turbulence resulting from the Trump administration taking our trade partners to task?

This maneuver from the incumbent Senator might be occasioned by recent news which indicates that Trump is making real and very positive progress on the trade front.
