Podcast: “The World Is Upside Down” Says Cramer of Democrats Aligning Themselves With President Trump

Congressman Kevin Cramer joined me on my radio show for his weekly open phones segment. I asked him about polling, released by Republican U.S. House candidate Kelly Armstrong, showing President Trump with strong approval numbers in North Dakota and suggested that’s probably why Democrats in North Dakota – including his opponent this election cycle, incumbent U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp – have working so hard to align themselves with the President.

I also pointed out that in West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat, has said that he won’t rule out endorsing President Trump in 2020.

“The world is upside down,” Cramer told me.

“The irony is when the founders created six year terms for the Senate they created this situation where Senators have five years of leisure and one year of working,” he added. The suggestion being, I suppose, that Senator Heitkamp is doing this this year, an election year, that she hadn’t been doing in her previous five years in office.

Cameron Easley, senior reporter for Morning Consult, was also on to discuss their polling released today showing Senator Heitkamp with a continued trend of declining approval numbers. Also the number of respondents in the poll saying Heitkamp should be replaced by someone else is up to 50 percent.
