Governor Doug Burgum, because of his background in the tech industry, is seen as probably the most internet-savvy political leader in North Dakota. But he pulled a bit of a boner on Twitter recently.

He sent out this tweet touting the Main Street Initiative, an ill-defined platform of policies he campaigned on back in 2016 but hasn’t done much to flesh out since:

The problem?

Uh, someone forgot to register MainStreetND.org. The folks at the Flickertail Times – a North Dakota-based humor/satire blog (they skewered me pretty good recently) – noticed that the domain wasn’t registered and bought it for themselves.

So now the domain referenced by Governor Burgum forwards to their website.

Whoops!

UPDATE: Just got this from Burgum spokesman Mike Nowatzki:

I saw your post on the Main Street Initiative website. The problem isn’t that the domain wasn’t registered, it’s that the wrong domain was included in the tweet. It’s MainStreetND.com, not MainStreetND.org. The tweet has been deleted and will be reposted with the correct address.

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.
