TN justices up for retention vote to hold breakfast with progressive interests

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The three Tennessee Supreme Court justices up for an August retention election, who maintain politics have no place in the judiciary, have scheduled a breakfast this week — with law firms and politically progressive interest groups.
According to an invitation advertised on at least three websites, including Supporters of Justice Sharon G. Lee’s Facebook page, the breakfast, which will charge admission, is scheduled Wednesday at Nashville’s Waller law firm.
The Women’s Political Collaborative of Tennessee is apparently hosting the event, which is also set to include justices Gary Wade and Connie Clark.
The WPCTN doesn’t appear to champion any progressive causes, at least by its Facebook page.

But sponsors of the event include Davidson County Democratic Women, as well as the Tennessee National Organization for Women. Other sponsors include the AAUW-TN and Women for Tennessee’s Future, both of which appear to embrace liberal progressive values, according to their individual Facebook pages.
Two judges and three law firms, meanwhile, are among the other sponsors.
As Tennessee Watchdog reported, George Soros and other left-wing activists have involved themselves in promoting the three justices for the August retention election.
Conner and many other Tennessee attorneys have held swanky fundraisers for the three justices, and one even indicated lawyers, not regular people, must take the lead on the election.
They and other pro-retention forces, such as Nashville attorney Lew Conner, still haven’t proven claims that big business and the Koch brothers are spending more than $1 million to oust them.
Tennessee lawyers likely want the state’s recently enacted tort reform laws overturned — possibly explaining why they’re going out of their way to help three justices, Tennessee Watchdog has reported.
Former Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen appointed the three justices. If voters remove even one, Republican Gov. Bill Haslam will replace that person, likely giving Republicans a majority on the court.
“Politics has no place in the courtroom,” Lee told News Channel 5 Nashville reporter during an interview last month.
Repeating that narrative, Wade said this to Williams during the same interview:
“Justice is neither Democrat nor Republican.”
