Why Is Bush Getting All The Heat?
While getting married yesterday, Rosie O'Donnel had a few choice words for President Bush:
Its odd how President Bush is getting all sorts of heat for his opposition to gay marriage, yet nobody seems to be asking John Kerry or John Edwards any tough questions on the topic. If you haven't forgotten, they're against gay marriage as well.
Kevin Alyward points out a recent article at Out Smart Magazine, a gay and lesbian publication, which addresses this apparent double-standard:
Its a good point. Some how, by default, the Democratic party is fingered as the "gay-friendly" party. Its a false perception. Lets not forget who was responsible for the Defense of Marriage Act. Senator Ted Kennedy sponsored the bill and President Bill Clinton signed it into law.
Republicans may be, for the most part, against gay marriage, but it'd be nice if some of these activists could at least remember that Democrats aren't exactly helping them out either.
"I think the actions of the president are, in my opinion, the most vile and hateful words ever spoken by a sitting president," O'Donnell said on the program. "I am stunned and I'm horrified.

A governor criminalizes gay sex, yet gay leaders say nothing. An elected official backs antigay marriage legislation, yet a gay group says he's blameless. Another governor vetoes legislation giving gay employees the right to take time off from work to care for a sick lover, yet the state's gay lobbying organization yawns.
Welcome, my friends, to the world of the Democratic double standard.
Under it, a Republican who even hints at doing something that might adversely affect a gay person somewhere is instantly denounced as a homophobic hate-monger. When a Democrat does much the same thing? Well, nobody's perfect.
