So a guy returns to his off-campus apartment here in Boone to find a burglar with a small handgun. The supposedly armed man runs onto the Appalachian State Campus proceeding to scare the crap out of the students, faculty and staff. The university decided to lock down all campus buildings at 5:10 PM, but because of communication mishaps it didn’t filter all the way down until about 5:30 PM. Meanwhile, I’m sitting at work minding my own business when the cops come in with guns drawn telling us to get out of the building. By then about 5 of us had gathered in the kitchen and the cafeteria. Once the Boone 5.0 told us to clear out, we stampeded out of the building and ran to an adjacent campus building, only to sit there for an hour. Some brave souls stood outside of the cafeteria, trying to see if the cops had their man cornered. Eventually, more of us ventured out trying to figure out what was going on. By then it was pretty much a joke, as one faculty member quoted “No one’s been shot, no one’s been injured, I’m goin’ home!”

We went back to work at 6:30 PM, only to hear the Food Services director tell us to close up shop and go home. About a minute later one of the Chancellor’s Aides called us and said to stay open. With the rush we didn’t get out of work til after 8 PM, so by the time I came back to the dorm the hysteria was over. So I come to find out the police had entered the building on a tip that said they had seen the same gunman at the very Chic-fil-a that I work at. Go figure.

Just another crazy day right?

UPDATE: Cops are in my dorm pulling security right now....

UPDATE: The cops have cleared out of my dorm. Apparently the gunman was spotted at my Hall.

Pretty freaky that the guy is still at large.

"Scare" over, Gunman a hoax.....

The Police here in Boone learned this morning that the guy who reported the story made it all up.

The Watauga Democrat has a video of this guy being interviewed. He's soo.... sketch.

http://theapp.appstate.edu/content/view/3144/41/

For a little background on this story, The Appalachian is the student-run newspaper for Appalachian State University, which runs on a biweekly schedule here. A good majority of students, faculty, and staff here read it and use it as one of their primary sources of information throughout the week.

One of the Associate Editors for the paper wrote an opinion column which she starts off by comparing Paris Hilton to United States Marines.

It turns out Paris Hilton and a group of U.S. Marines have more in common than you might think.

On Nov. 19, 2005, a group of U.S. Marines killed 24 unarmed men, women and children in Haditha, Iraq.

The massacre is believed to have been an act of retaliation following the killing of Lance Corporal Miguel Terrazas.

Although the incident occurred over two years ago, the soldiers and officers involved in the killings will finally face court appearances this spring.

Similar to the minor charges leveled against Hilton after violating probation in June 2007, those involved in the Haditha case have experienced a decrease in possible punishment.

The very fact that she compares members of our armed services to a wretch like Paris Hilton is incredulous. I can’t believe the gall it takes to slander US Marines. Her line of reasoning follows that “Bush lied, people died” mentality, and so she like other liberals latched onto this story lockstep with John Murtha.

Nevermind that the “Haditha Marines” were set up by Al-Qaeda, who used innocent people as human shields to create this kind of tragedy.

It amazes me that liberals can claim to support the soldiers, but they can turn around and stab them in the back with the same breath of air.

Our military should view these incidents as real problems and look for ways to prevent them in the future.

Perhaps these horrific acts could be prevented if the U.S. Military offered additional mental, emotional and physical assistance to its employees?

Regardless, it is our job as U.S. citizens to hold the military responsible for its endeavors – no matter how far away they occur.

The problem for her is that the military does treat these as serious problems, and they do try and get to the bottom of the matter as quickly as possible. But to liberals like Ms. Tolleson, the Marines are already guilty of war crimes for fighting this war.

They don’t realize that we are not fighting an enemy you can beat with an air war or a 100 hour war. These are scared little cockroaches who will use anything they can to promote their fundamentalist agenda of cleansing the world of Western decadence. They will not stop until we submit or die. Iraq may not have been a hotbed for terrorism at first, but it sure is now. Or was anyway. Then we started succeeding and winning, which was too much for Dingy Harry.

It’s been a while since my last post on here, but Spring semester here at snowy Appalachian State has been busy. Here goes:

http://www.breitbart.tv/html/33154.html

You know, when Senator Fred Thompson called Governor Huckabee a Democrat a few weeks ago, I instantly realized that he couldn’t have been closer to the truth. There has always been something about Huckabee that I didn’t like, but I could never put my finger on it. Huckabee is the type of guy that looks like he is hiding some dirty secret. He uses humor to divert from the more serious questions while at the same time trying to appear smart. He resorts to attacks on others to make himself look better while avoiding his own mishaps and pitfalls in his own record.

Barring the links above, one realizes that you could just as easily use the above paragraph to describe another politician/crook - Bill Clinton.

So it was no surprise when I saw the video where Clinton welcomes Huckabee and calls him “a good man.” Mike Huckabee and Bill Clinton are birds of a feather. I’m just glad that Clinton can’t be his running mate.

Fred Thompson

It concerned me earlier today that someone said that Thompson doesn’t want the job of president, because I am more concerned about the man who says he should be president because he wants the job. Who would want it? It's the hardest job in the world and you are under constant pressure from 300 million Americans and other world powers. Anywho, below is my response to that person.

Thompson is running not because he wants the job, he’s running because he believes he can do the job the most effectively out of those running for the office. For the rest of the candidates it’s a popularity contest. Listen to what the candidate says. Thompson couldn’t have been more crystal clear on how crystal clear he is.

Look at his competition:

Huckabee is a political pastor with no foreign policy experience and a history of raising huge taxes.

Romney is a flip-flopper on just about any conservative issue.

Guiliani is nothing more than a “liberal with a backbone” (as my room mate would say, in that he’s a social liberal but is strong on defense). Guiliani is only a Republican in name.

John McCain is also only a Republican in name, he frequently jumps party lines and cozies up with Democrats. He is one of the biggest proponents of the Shamnesty bill, which would have sold out America’s borders to illegal immigrants and any nation that wants to do us harm.

Ron Paul is going the way of the dodo, and was never a viable candidate, considering he wants to take down just about every governmental office (EPA, NSA, DIA, CIA, FBI, IRS [that’s not so bad hehe] DoE, DoHS, DoHUD, ect.) and retreat from every base in the world. Ron Paul has no grasp of modern American politics, and lives in the 1780’s

Hillary Clinton is one of the biggest liars in history, second only to her husband, and would sell our national interests out to business parters with dealings in China and Russia just like Bill did. Their way of dealing with the truth is to “deny, deny, deny.”

John Edwards is a millionaire trial lawyer who can’t even get elected in his home state (being a North Carolinian myself I can tell you he lied to us when he ran for Senate and claimed it wouldn’t be a springboard for the presidency, which it did.) This guy made his fortune on the plight of others and then wants to turn around and tell you he deserves $20,000 per speaking appearance when he’s talking about poverty.

Barack Obama is only trying to win a popularity contest - he isn’t running for president, he’s running against the current president. He poses and postures, and claims that since he lived in Indonesia he has the experience necessary to handle world politics.

Richardson and Biden are cardboard cutouts the Democrats put out there to make the field look diverse. They bring nothing to the table and are hardly material worthy or qualified enough to even run for president.

Fred Thompson is the only candidate who stands on what he believes in and is the real representation of a capable leader. He’s more than capable for the job, he’s the only one who is qualified to accomplish it. He’s been totally upfront and honest about who he is and why he’s running. He has nothing to gain from this, his only goal is to serve American interests above all else. If Thompson gets elected, our nation will return to the glory days of Reaganism where we realized it’s ok to be proud of America again, where people realized their potential and started working for themselves, and our economy will soar. We need to believe in America, not in what the rest of the world says we should be. Thompson will not back down from defending America. The other candidates will. If you want true grit and conviction, vote for Thompson.

Wow.

Matt Drudge linked to a very interesting diatribe today on his site. I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of twisted mind produced this one. In this article, liberal blow-hole Dave Lindoff (writer of the book The Case for Impeachment and probably fresh from realizing that he is pretty insignificantsince his book can’t sell much) lashes out at everything Conservative telling us that Conservatives are to blame for Global Warming and that we should rightly be annihilated when Global Warming takes out the Conservative parts of America (he uses the red-state, blue-state approach, but what he doesn’t realize is that America is purple). He then bridges another paragraph by putting himself on the “high ground, both actually and figuratively.” I can’t make this stuff up.

The best part is when he tells his liberal counterparts, who are supposed to be the only ones compassionate about the poor that they should trap the refugee conservatives into a system that keeps them out of the political process. Not only do they want to keep us in abject poverty and dependence, they want to take away all our freedoms for being Conservative.

There will be much work to be done to help the earth and its residents—human and non-human—survive this man-made catastrophe, and we can’t have these future refugee troglodytes, should their personal disasters still fail to make them recognize reality, mucking things up again.

It should be considered acceptable, in this stifling new world, to say, “Shut up. We told you this would happen.”

Their real agenda surfaces….

I can’t believe this one.

In a recent White House briefing, one of the ABC mis-reporters tries to steer President Bush’s answer to fit his liberal slant on the war. He barely tries to hide the fact that he’s go an agenda in his line of questioning. The headline itself is misleading and plain unethical. Bush isn’t unsatisfied with progress in Iraq, he’s said that while the political progress isn’t as much as it could be, they are indeed making progress. Right after the fall of Saddam the Democrat (democratic is a misnomer) Party and their cronies in the MSM have been trying to convince the American people that this war is lost, almost to the point of treason.

I must commend President Bush on re-steering the question back to the truth, instead of answering to the pandering slanted view of the yellow journalists.
