One wonders how, when we’ve put levees and dams up and down the entire Mississippi basin in the past 150 years to tame it (since the days Samuel Clemens would “Mark Twain” on the steamboats), how we would define a 500 year flood.  It’s not as if you can use historic evidence of floods and claim it’s representative of how things would work today.

Before Katrina made landfall, the MSM was predicting between 10,000 and 100,000 deaths.  They make their living by lying and exaggerating.  The Duke lacrosse players were “rapists” and the Haditha Marines were “cold-blooded killers”; all of which were false.

Hope and change, in a free world, are the private possessions of motivated individuals.

True, but the MSM do have sources on this as well.  I can fault a journalist on one level for parroting the claims of the scientists without thinking “why does the 500 year flood come only 15 years after the 100 year flood” (though it can happen, statistically speaking).  It’s another thing altogether when those same scientists are coming up with these floodplain estimates, ignoring the fact that they have literally no data to use for their estimates.

As Pilgrim notes, “we are so screwed.”
