Why The Right Is Happier Than The Left

Find it here

Over at the WAPO, they’re trying to figure out why Republicans are happier than Democrats,

A 2006 Pew Research poll found that 45 percent of Republicans describe themselves as “very happy,” compared with only 30 percent of Democrats (and 29 percent of independents). This is a sizable gap and a remarkably consistent one, too. Republicans have been happier than Democrats every year since the General Social Survey, conducted biannually by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, began asking about happiness in 1972.

[...]

There are at least four reasons why the Right is happier than the Left.

1) Church and marriage, along with the attitudes and lifestyle changes that go along with those two things, which the article mentioned.

2) Conservative ideas generally work very well while the Left’s don’t. It’s hard to be happy when your belief system is constantly being proven wrong in the real world, but you’re not flexible enough to change.

3) Liberalism is, by its very nature these days, an extremely pessimistic, miserable philosophy. It assumes that half the country is not just wrong, but evil. It encourages hatred for successful people. It pits groups of people against each other in race, class, and gender warfare. It’s just non-stop negativity, 24x7.

4) You want to be unhappy in life? Have a problem and wait around for the federal government to fix it. You want to have a chance to be happy? Take personal responsibility for your problems and work to take care of yourself. People who believe they have control of their own life, not that their fate is in the hands of others, are happier people because they accomplish much more in life.

True that.

I agree with this.  Think of every gloom and doom story you see.  Who propagates it?  I have been guilty of being gloomier than I should be.

The other day I saw a story that Warren Buffett was bullish as heck on our economy.

That didn’t hit the front page of the WAPO.

Get an ugly girl to marry you

Like Bill did!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Why is the right happier than the left?

... because the right embraces the unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness of each and every individual.

... the left embraces collective misery for the common good.

When we look at the “socialist paradise” that is Cuba, we must remember that a sizable share of the misery those people suffer is directly attributable to Che Guevara bringing Castro into power, and giving him many of the policies that have caused so much pain. The real symbol of Che should be the raft, to remind us of all those who have died on rafts in the ocean trying to escape the Cuban nightmare and get to freedom. And had he not been killed, begging for his life like a coward, he would’ve done the same thing again and again in countries all throughout Latin and South America. His actions have inspired terrorists across a continent and caused countless deaths.

I’m not surprised that conservatives claim to be happier than liberals.

After all, conservatives live in a fantasy world where the insurgency is in its last throes and Iraq is a Jeffersonian democracy.

Jack,

If it wasn’t for your modest amusement value, you’d be pathetic!

Still, let’s see here.  Islamist terrorism against the US has been a problem for two 8 year administrations now.  Under the Democrat, there was an attack every other year.  And your guy Clinton did N-O-T-H-I-N-G about it. (Just ask RealitybasedBob!  Really!) And since the attack of 9-11???

Nuclear non-proliferation.  Once again, the liberal Democrat accomplished zilch...zippo...nada.  Pakistan?  Nuclear weapons?  Where’d those come from?

Unfunded “entitlement” liabilities is a huge and growing problem.  Have your guys got any solutions?  Nope!  When President Bush offered to sit down and discuss the pending Medicare and Social Security funding crises, Dorgan, Reid, and the Democrats refused to even talk about talking.

How about the need for continued economic growth in this country?  Liberals answer seems to consists exclusively in raising taxes, which will only stifle growth, not foster it.

Spending discipline?  Border security, smarmy liberal judges who allow child predators and illegal alien rapists and murderers to virtually roam free, over-arching regulation of our capital markets such as Sarbanes-Oxley which is driving huge amounts of finance business (and tax revenues) to overseas markets such as Hong Kong, Shanghai and London.  Got a take on any of those real world problems?  I didn’t think so.

The fact of the matter is you and the rest of your liberal caballeros wouldn’t know a real-world problem if it bit you on the ass, and you’re just as clueless about solutions.

“We need to keep this country together right now. We need to focus on this terrorism issue,” Clinton said during a White House news conference.

But while the president pushed for quick legislation, Republican lawmakers hardened their stance against some of the proposed anti-terrorism measures. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Mississippi, doubted that the Senate would rush to action before they recess this weekend. The Senate needs to study all the options, he said, and trying to get it done in the next three days would be tough.

I am, in fact, a very happy man, with a rich, colorful and exciting life so far, and a good deal more excitement and satisfaction to look forward to.

True, I am prejudiced against those, mostly on the Left, whose intellectual lethargy and adolescent dishonesty makes them not only ignorant, but appallingly arrogant about it.

But in the final analysis, I am virtually immune, and even if the country chooses a Democrat this November, it won’t really have much effect on me.

Which pretty much proves the point in R108’s original post, and disproves your specious claim to “reality” as well.

“Hope is not a method.” - Common Military Saying

The above is a statement of pro activity.  If any Soldier were to tell me that he hoped what he was briefing was going to come to fruition, that would be unacceptable.  We in the Army do not have the luxury to ‘hope’ that things will end well.  Hope will get us killed.  Instead, we must plan and take action.  Hope is not a method.

As a leader I can never ‘hope’ that my Soldiers have the proper training.  I can never ‘hope’ that my Soldiers have the proper logistical supplies.  I can never ‘hope’ that my Soldiers will survive the next mission.  Hope is not a method; I live in the real world.
