8 1/2-foot pet albino Burmese python escaped its cage early this morning and slithered into the room of a 2-year-old child in Sumter County where the reptile wrapped around the toddler and suffocated her.
The snake was alive when officers removed it from the house this afternoon. Investigators are still gathering information in the case.
Joy Hill, spokeswoman with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said investigators were at the scene, a home in Oxford, north of Wildwood.
