In some of the heaviest fighting seen in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, Pakistani fighter jets bombed [kids and goats while the men hid] for the third day today as the authorities battled pro-Taliban militants[’ children and livestock].

The [extremely fucked up] security situation in Pakistan’s tribal areas, where Al Qaeda and the Taliban influence is spreading, is [a pain in the ass] for Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who has been focusing his attention on [continuing his military dictatorship] and now awaits Supreme Court ruling on whether he was eligible for the vote he [coerced with violence] on Saturday. Pakistan has been raked with surging violence as the military battles the militants sympathetic to the Taliban and Al Qaeda, with a rising number of deadly attacks on military targets. Peace [and death] accords negotiated by the government with the militants and local tribes in 2005 and 2006 have all but broken down.

Alright. I got 3:5 odds in favor of the autonomous tribal factions. Anyone want to take Pakistan? Maybe the smart thing to do will be just to get a combo ticket for this ‘race’, grab a mint julip (with the good bourbon), and watch the horsies go around!
