Whistling Dixie while the Troops are Writing the Music

We’re not ready to make nice.

While troops are busting their behinds fighting for a cause they believe in, the left wing of the music industry has stuck it to ‘em again. Liberals are the main source of division in this country we call the United States of America. Not content to persuade their Democratically elected representatives to strip funding from US Troops fighting in Iraq, they stick a knife, edgy and dull, into the stomach of each soldier and twist it again and again like they did last year, and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that.

Against a backdrop of anti-war and anti-President Bush rhetoric, country music stars, The Dixie Chicks, won all five Grammy Awards for which they were nominated last evening, including Album of the Year. The last country music artist to win album of the year was Glen Campbell in 1969. To balance it all out they threw some crumbs at Carrie Underwood. But make no mistake, even the Dixie Chicks were smart enough to figure out that the Grammy Association was using them to make a political statement, and by the end of the evening they said ‘we’re ready to make nice’ - whatever that means. It would be nice if it meant they have seen the light and will start whistling a different tune. Winning an award because it sends a left wing extremist message doesn’t say much for their talent, now does it? Are they talented? Of course they are. But that’s not why they were chosen, now was it?

The Dixie Chicks caused quite a ruckus a few years ago when singer Natalie Maines told fans during a 2003 overseas concert, that they were ashamed to hail from the same state as President Bush. Their careers suffered here in the US, especially in the heartland, where many were ashamed to admit The Dixie Chicks hailed from the great halls of country music. Why couldn’t they be rock stars instead, many wondered I’m sure. The anti-war people really need to think on these things:

  1. What would have happened had the US not gone to Afghanistan?
  2. What would have happened had the US not gone to Iraq?
  3. What would have happened had the Bush administration ignored the real threat of terrorism, like former President Bill Clinton apparently did?
  4. What will happen if we leave?
  5. Why don’t you support democratizing a country, Iraq, that harbors extremists who wish to control the people of Iraq, who are diametrically opposed to everything you, liberals, stand for?
  6. Why don’t you go to Iraq and become an anti-war protester over there?
  7. Why don’t you realize that your dull and edgy knife is hurting real men and women who are fighting to preserve your way of life?
  8. If you hate President Bush & Co so much, why don’t you act in a democratic fashion and present your case to your newly appointed Democrats instead of sticking it to the troops?
  9. Tell France, Germany, and Russia to get in there and kick some behind!
  10. Leave music and entertainment out of the political arena. Shut up and sing!

Sheila: As to the consistency of the Chix message, I recently came into possession of an “Earl’s in the trunk” bumper sticker from one of the earlier Chix tours.

Goodbye Earl is a song about killing an abusive husband. For those of us keeping score, if you abuse your own wife, you deserve to die. But if you rape, torture and kill other people’s wives (like Saddam and his sons) then it’s apparently no harm, no foul!

(And yes, I have said this before!)

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Yup, everything is a conspiracy, isn’t it?
If the awards were all about anti-war, how come Neil Young’s blatantly anti-war song didn’t win?  Maybe the Chicks really ARE talented.  Maybe it really IS a great album.

Well why was Al Gore there then?

Gore nearly missed the Grammys because of an aching molar. Yes it was… wait for it…
An Inconvenient Tooth!

LOL!  Ha Ha Ha!  Good one!

“They say if the warming trend continues, by 2015 Hillary Clinton might actually thaw out.” --Jay Leno, on global warming

If you’re wondering how Hillary got mixed up in this thread, it makes about as much sense as Al Gore showing up at the Grammys.

Didn’t Al Gore lead some charge to censor or ban music albums or something like that in 80’s?

That was Al’s lovely wife Tipper. (Who was then rudely insulted by foul-mouthed rock stars*. Al was then known for being inconveniently absent in defending his wife’s honor.)

*for the grammar impaired: foul-mouthed applies to the stars...not the rock, but in this case it could go either way!

What would have happened if Republicans had not stood up and fought during the civil war? Freedom does not come free.
