Where the Money Goes for the Six Christian Ministries

I have been in a conversation with some people regarding the whole thing about the 6 ministries who are being asked to provide records.

If I were in charge I would in my best Christianese tell them to take a flying leap.

But, that wouldn’t be like Jesus now would it.

I’m not all that much like Jesus as I would like to be.

SO, in any case, if you are interested in the discussion from some Christian people arguing intramurally, look at this

Integration of Church and State

The Senate is meddling in religious affairs. Or is it? It is investigating six Christian “ministries” for allegations of opulent spending. When will we ever learn? Whenever you incorporate into the state, the state is your master. The state creates the corporate entity by its Word, very similar to God creating the world by His Word, and rules over its creation. These folks should tell the Senate to stick it up their legislature. But they had to register as non-profit corporations, so such an idea isn’t much help. Oh, well.

I tried to access the previous post of this and got an error message, URL not found.

Sorry, I wanted to do all this in a comment but for those of you who think the Christian ministries in question are a bunch of crooks, not all of them are (IMO).

Comments

The comments inside the shaded block quotes section were right on target.

1st: Any entanglements of the Church with the world always, to varying degrees and with different consequences always pollutes and harms the Church.

2nd: When places like Falwell’s Liberty College accept federal funds, they are subjected to federal oversight and that results in an unhealthy mixture.

3rd: Churches should not be tax exempt and donations to churches or ministries should never be tax deductible. The church must support itself, even to the point of self sacrifice if necessary.

4th: Every church or ministry should be wholly transparent about every cent received and spent, not to appease anyone in the world, certainly not the Christ haters even posting here, but to avoid even the slightist appearance of evil.

5th: No on can justify why any servant of Christ (pastor, evangelist, missionary. etcetera) should have materials goods or a lifestyle far above that of their average follower/supporter. How can a wealthy pastor of a mega-church be the servant of the penniless members of his congregation? They cannot! They don’t speak the same language or have social interactions with one another.

We Christians must come out from among the world in how we live and speak, ministering selflessly out of true love or get a job!

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

Egh. You could start doing that by not attributing false hate to all of those who disagree with Christianity. Doing such a thing works against both you and your beliefs.

Neiman,

DUDE!  EXACTLY.

The sheer hypocrisy of trying to reconcile driving an Escalade and living in a palace, ruling a megachurch, and writing books about how Jesus prospers us in real estate transactions--all the while living without paying taxes because you call yourself a church--just enrages me.

Transparency is the key.  And if you get tax exempt status and accept government funds or tax benefits, just open the door to oversight.  The alternative is to not accept tax exempt status and not get federal funds.

Agree 100% on all counts.
