What’s Next?

Now that the election is over and the Democrats have a majority in Congress, what changes can we expect?

I believe that the new Speaker of the House, extreme liberal that she is, will nevertheless use her power to keep the extremists in check and work very hard to gain as much ground as she can through bipartanship compromise. To do otherwise would be to invite veto after veto.

We can only hope this will be the case, because nothing else makes sense. From a liberal point of view, I’m glad that recaltrant Republicans will be forced to compromise as well if they don’t want to get stalled out completely.

But how likely is it that everyone can put their hard feelings aside and work together to get the business of government done, or will it be a case of revenge on the Democrats side and contrariness on the Republican side?

The President has taken the first step by letting the Secretary of Defense go, which I’m sure he did not want to do. I hope this olive branch will be reciprocated.

How about we start a new day, concerning ourselves with what is best for the country, not any specific party? Surely there is room for agreement somewhere.

Compromise to the Democrats is us giving up our core principles without giving up any of ours.

How very “newspeak” of you Margie.

The Democrats didn’t compromise one bit when we had won the Senate, the House and the Presidency.  Why is it you ignore that Margie?

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

The situation being what it is, won’t they be forced to since they won’t have the votes to override a veto, which President Bush will not be sparing with? Give me some hope, here, Whistler.

Margie, why is it you weren’t upset with the Democrats for compromising with the Republicans?

I find it quite hypocritical that you as a liberal think we should now compromise with you when you were unwilling to do so before.

With a Republican President and a Republican majority in Congress, yes, the Democrats should have been more willing to compromise. Otherwise, how could they get anything they wanted? Guess they figured that it was not going to happen anyway. I hear a lot of defeatist talk here, too. Just being obstructist is not accomplishing anything. Blocking presidential appointments with fillibusters is a good example. Not that I don’t live in dread of the new composition on the Supreme Court, but he had a right to put whoever he wanted there. Well, maybe not Harriet, his own personal fan club.

If you hadn’t noticed Margie the Democrat voters rewarded the obstructionist Dems.

Well, yeah, I guess that’s pretty good motivation for the next election. How do you think the Republican Congressmen can insure a victory in 2008 for their party? I think the American people are telling them something. Don’t you think they would be wise to return to trying to balance the budget, limit government, all those things they represent themselves as supporting? If they fight the minimum wage hike, tho, America is not going to be happy with them.

I agree that they lost it.  However Rob had a great post showing that much of their losses were personal issues not related to a rejection of conservatism.

I don’t think that voters really care that much about the minimal wage.

You’re right the Republicans need to return to their roots of fiscal conservatism and economic growth.(They are one and the same)

Margie, there is nothing Dems have, or will, propose that I want. In any way, shape, manner, or form. Period.

I do not want socialized medical care.

I do not want elevated tax rates.

I do not want amnesty for illegal aliens.

I do not want open borders.

I do not want to surrender to Islam.

I do not want marriage turned into nothing more than a tax dodge/benefits generator.

I do not want tax money pissed away on non-results producing medical research.

I do not want tax money used to provide abortion on demand, or for partial-birth abortions for stem cell/organ harvesting.

Do I really have to continue? Compromise with you people has got America nothing but screwed. You have told us here that you worked hard all your life and now have nothing. Ask yourself this question. Which political party and ideology has been in control of America for the majority of your adult life?

Then go ask them why you don’t have anything.

twenty seven out of fifty states have raised it above the federal level. Seems like they care to me.

2Hotel9, Do you think fiscal conservative Republicans would have made any difference? Guess they would have. If not for liberals, the saftey net that kept us alive after his stroke and provides me with a place to live that I can afford keeps me from being in a cardboard box in one of Richmonds alleys right now.

Speaking with the willfully obtuse is one of the other things I am not doing anymore. You go have a miserable life, and do not forget to thank Democrats for it.

People don’t care about the minimum wage?  Now that is just too too funny.  It passed in every single state where it was on the ballot this year and the pat election as well.  They do care.

They care because the retarded union activists (who all get a raise when the min. wage goes up) calls them a bunch of greedy jerks if they don’t support it.

Price fixing, be it for labor of products, has no place in a free economy.

I don’t think that someone goes into the ballot box thinking that they’ll vote for someone who will increase the minimal wage.

They consider taxes, the war, education, Social inSecurity etc etc etc first.
