West Viginia gets it right

I spent a week years ago in Weston, West Virginia. I left thinking I was in a time warp. Oh, how wrong I was at West Virginia has is the first state known to offer hunter education curriculum mainstream. good for them.

The legislation says students in grades 6 through 12 can take courses in safety skills, wilderness training and basic instruction in firearms, although loaded weapons will not be used.

”........Critics suggested school time could be spent more profitably on other subjects”? Like how to use condoms? Or how to fill out a welfare application? Or how to file a racial discrimination complaint? Cause they damn well ain’t teaching them how to read, write or do math.

“Profitably”? That’s an odd word choice.

One would think that safety, of all things, is a “profitable” subject.

If the critics are that worried, then they can change the amount of credits needed to graduate. The way it is set up now, one can load up during the first three years of high school and then coast during Senior year. A full schedule with no scheduled study halls for freshman, sophomore, and junior years; and then during the senior year all that is required is the fourth year English class, the federally required twice a week gym class, and six study halls a day. They need to start there to forward the “profitably” measure.

Lik… that’s exactly why I graduated at the end of my jr year. I crammed all I could into three years. It wasn’t quite as easy as you make it sound though. I attended evening classes at a community college and still did my daily three hour cheerleading practice.
I just wish I had that energy and motivation today

Oh, and as for the post subject? Sheesh… if the schools can teach about gay guys groin groping we should permit a lil’ manly hunting skills to counter balance the whole scenario… lol

2Hotel9, are you referring to West Virginia schools, or public education in general?
