UN Praises Progress In Iraq

Almost overlooked today in the McClellan book controversy is this shocker. UN chief Ban Ki-Moon praised the progress being made in Iraq.

Iraq is stepping back from the abyss that we feared most.

What is troubling here, is the failure of the main-stream media to pay any attention whatever to a completely unbiased - indeed, frequently critical - source on the current progress in Iraq.

If Ki-Moon had savaged conditions in Iraq or blasted the United States, it would have been front-page news in the NYT and WP.

It might make Bush look too good.

Zsa Zsa:  More likely it would make Obama look bad.

Obama looks reeeeeally bad to me. I don’t quite understand how this guy is so popular.

Yeah, Obama is definitely more popular than Bush who has to meet with McBush behind the scenes so no one can take pictures of Bush and McBush together.  They have to meet “secretly” and have to change to smaller venues since they can’t fill a room with supporters these days.

Hahahaha, AndyDakota:  That was about the most un-secret meeting in the history of politics!  It was moved because leftist demonstrators were planning their 30 seconds of TV fame.

Davinski,

This is politics, not basketball or toddler feeding.  The word you’re searching for is “drivel” not “dribble” and the point is not that the UN is anti-US as much as the fact that the UN is unimaginably corrupt, indescribably inept, hopelessly incompetent, irredeemably pointless, and an abysmal failure which should be allowed a quick and certain death.

andydakota - Yeah, Obama is definitely more popular than Bush who has to meet with McBush...

“McBush” is now what passes for “intelligent” conversation among the “reality based” crowd.

Davinski said, I hope you post this the next time you here the dribble that the UN is anti U.S.

Because one drop out of a waterfall a trend makes.

“Reality based” = anything but.

Moon praised progress in Iraq without giving the US credit for that progress.  Big deal.

Leftie political philosophy, from a DU commenter:

It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. RUMOR IS TRUTH. The modern laws of media hype and political warfare have a useful tenet: Repeat ANYTHING or raise false concern over ANYTHING and it is likely to be planted in the conscious/subconscious of many voters.

robert108:  You’re right.  Moon does not give the U.S. credit.  We would both need a stiff drink if he did!

The ‘big deal’ - if there is one - is that even when one of their own admits progress is being made in Iraq, the leftist MSM won’t touch it.

pp: I have already seen at least one attempt to spin this as being to the credit of Iran, because they stopped supplying arms to the Iraqi insurgents.  When the UN doesn’t tell the whole truth, they lie by implication.  Truth is the only antidote to propaganda.

At yesterday’s gathering of world leaders in southern Poland to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the United States was represented by Vice President Cheney. The ceremony at the Nazi death camp was outdoors, so those in attendance, such as French President Jacques Chirac and Russian President Vladimir Putin, were wearing dark, formal overcoats and dress shoes or boots. Because it was cold and snowing, they were also wearing gentlemen’s hats. In short, they were dressed for the inclement weather as well as the sobriety and dignity of the event.

The vice president, however, was dressed in the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower.

rbb has to go back over three years to try to hijack the thread and bust the Vice President on his fashion sense. Way to go with substantive argument rbb! /sarcasm
Further proof that partisan hack rbb can’t stay focused on anything other than minutiae.
bob: To your credit you do have a mind for trifling matters!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.
