Uncontroversial Stem Cell Harvesting

Interesting and I warn you, it’s ... it’s, um… a very descriptive and blatant science article
If harvesting cells from your placenta makes you queasy, and it’s too late to access some umbilical cord blood, there’s yet another medical waste product that may provide a new, uncontroversial source of stem cells: menstrual blood.

Dr. Amit Patel from the University of Pittsburgh found that the uterine lining, which is shed during menstruation, contains millions of stem cells. These cells are multipotent (can give rise to several different cell types) and have the capacity for self-renewal—two essential properties of stem cells. The study showed that menstrual stem cells (MenSCs) could differentiate into cells that give rise to fat, cartilage, bone, skin, muscle, heart, and brain cells (though it’s important to note that the MenSC’s did not actually differentiate into these cells—only into their predecessors). The cells actually showed greater potential capacity than bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, as they had some of the same properties as human embryonic stem cells.

[...] but it’s not for the faint-hearted folks out there

So are the Christians for or against the harvesting of stem cells from menstrual blood?

I want to know before I make a comment and inadvertently piss off the moral majority.

Abaddon,

I find it hard to believe you give a rip about the what the moral majority think.  If you had a clue you might figure that since an unborn child is not in the picture, the Christians would be fine with it.

Yeah.  I’m a sarcastic bastard.

I have a hard time deducing what churchy types are fine with anymore.  It all seems to hinge on how they want to interpret some passage from a moldy old book that they believe to be the absolute word of some invisible dude.

Abbadon.  Why don’t you find out for yourself by taking up some inquisitive readings or sit in on a Sunday School class.  Where do you live?  May I suggest a Presbyterian PCA Church that believes in the inerrancy of the Bible and does not pick and choose books and chapters that they disagree with.

Chief RZ:  I’m an atheist.  Sorry, I don’t envision sitting in Bible class anytime soon.  If you must know, I spent six years in parochial school and two years at a Catholic college.  I had my fill of the teachings of Christianity when I was younger.

I don’t believe in the “inerrancy” of the Bible and find it hard to believe that anyone does.  Of course, some people believe in vampires and werewolves, still others believe in space men.

I’m still waiting for an explanation of the relevance of the comment you left at my site yesterday.

Abaddon,

Agreed.

As for the reality of an invisible God, well one day all doubt will be put to rest.  Until then you might want to avoid equating werewolves, vampires and aliens with religion and a religious work that has stood the test of time and has been accepted by many of the greatest minds of human history.

As for a belief in God, the vast majority of human beings presently and throughout history have acknowledged His existence.  Your inability to comprehend the existence of God and your arrogant contempt for those who do demonstrates your ignorance and eludes credibility.

Like a true fool, his response offers us another fine example.

You clealy misunderstood my definition.  Not surprising.  It is both your inability to comprehend and arrogant contempt that leads me to attribute ignorance to you state of mind.

By the way, your link is silly.  Abraham Lincoln?  Yeah right.  Like honest Abe was an atheist.  That could be said of others in your ‘list’. Hilarious.

Abbadon.  At least you can acknowledge the accuracy of the historical books of the bible.  I recently posted in another thread :  Judges 19.

Was there a Roman Empire?  A place called Israel, Judah, Cannan?

So is your argument.  One silly turn deserves another.

I can acknowledge that the Bible is based on historical facts.  That doesn’t make it historically accurate OR the word of “God”.

What’s your point?

By the way, you still didn’t explain the relevance of your comment to my post.

Strike two.

You’re making progress.  Acknowledging the deficiancy of your argument bodes well for you.

And the vast majority of the world’s population, right Abaddon?

How many more time are you going to treat us to your displays of ignorance?

This seems like the part where I’m supposed to say

“I know you are, but what am I?”

Seems like a good place to end it.

Abbadon.  Where did I say, By the way, your link is silly?  I questioned the blank link, the mis-match between federal and state taxes and the postulate that somehow state taxes equal welfare received by states.  If you want to debate welfare, please lets debate what constitutes welfare first.

I answered your question on your blog where I left the first post--on your blog.
I am trying to stay on subject here at SA.

If the existence of God is your only problem with the Bible, then at least you realize that there are quite a few Truths contained there.

Did you ever wonder what caused Paul’s conversion from being the most evil of Jews to convert to being a follower of Christ, even to his imprisonment and death?

Anyone who labels Karl Marx, Marilyn Manson and Billy Joel as Great thinkers next to Einstein and Lincoln is a moron.

Lincoln was a Christian:
http://www.eadshome.com/Lincoln.htm

By the site, Einstein was agnostic.

Obama/Biden is not change. It’s more of the same.

Speaking of MORONS, Kenny, it says very clearly:

Famous Atheists, Freethinkers, Diests and Agnostics

The people listed could come under any or all of each of those labels.  That Lincoln was a Christian does not mean he wasn’t a freethinker.

And that you don’t hold Marilyn Manson in high regard (as don’t I), doesn’t mean he(she?) isn’t famous or one or more of the above.

So, kiss my ass and then come back with a viable argument.  Reading comprehension: Fucking FAIL.
