Tone Deaf Conservatives

Yesterday on Business I was traveling Southern IL.  I had nothing else on the radio so while traveling I listened to Rush Limbaugh.  He read this piece about the tone deafness of movement conservatives.  He took issue with this statement:

a Movement Conservative-dominated GOP would find itself in a different battle: clawing with Greens and Libertarians for two or three percentage points of the vote.

Now I know that we/you that write and comment on this blog believe you represent “true” and faithful conservatism.  That the core of Conservatism is alive and just waiting for a rebirth of Reagan.

I don’t agree with the jist of this article in his thought that it’s all about ethanol.  But there is a tone deafness to a branch of conservatism that is killing us all off.  If the TRUE conservative movement was viable why isn’t there a candidate?  Because there is no such thing.  And, like elsewhere on this blog, a comment that 50% like McCain and implied the other 50% are going to set this thing out.

Talk about marginalization.  Talk about your fringe.  Yes, I would have liked to see Huckabee in the White House.  I know it’s not gonna happen.

What really sealed the whole tone deaf conservative thing for me was this tirade Rush went off on concerning Hope, how hope was a bad thing, and that the hope ideals of Obama was wrong headed.  Now, there are lots of things to beat Obama up with, but talk about not hearing the tone, he’s completely out in space.  And he Quotes Fredrich Nietzsche re Hope (Rush did)

“Hope in reality is the worst of all evils, because it prolongs the torments of man”

On the same day it was revealed that the Shooter at NIU in DeKalb left behind a dogeard copy of Nietzsche with just such stupid stuff in it.

Rush Limbaugh has lost his mind.

Good job Gene.

Obviously any Republican elected in a national election is going to be a coalition candidate.  Neither the presumed nominee nor Gene’s preferred candidate were acceptable coalition candidates.

I think we’ve hashed out the reasons for that already.

Blaming the members of the coalition that were left behind for not blindly following the pack is blaming the people who are not at fault.

It’s up to the candidate to give us reasons to vote for him, not for other members of the coalition to demand we support a “less bad” candidate.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

whistler: Here are two very good reasons to vote for John McCain.

1.  Barack Obama
2.  Hillary Clinton

Not because John McCain is the lesser of two evils; he will be a great president. But because for any conservative, the alternative is unthinkable.

he will be a great president.

I think that’s a pretty wild statement when he’s been a pretty poor Senator (and Congressman).
