Time Magazine’s “Love” report

I tried to send this to Time’s editors, but got rejected for some reason. Hmmm. . .

This references Time’s article in their “love” issue:

My e-letter:

I found the article “Crazy Love” by Steven Pinker very enlightening; however, his concluding paragraphs lacked substance beyond statistics.

“A desperate lover in danger of being abandoned may resort to threatening his wife or girlfriend (yes, his; it’s usually a man).”

To insinuate that it is mostly men that are capable of making threats, and I’m sure he meant physical, is incongruous with modern life; not explicitly stating that physicality is the subject implies that most threats of abuse are by men.

Threats of lawsuits, the implication of a woman leaving (most likely with the kid(s)), the loss of all financial (and possibly emotional) support previously provided, not to mention the existence of laws that make receivers of frivoulous and vengeful physical or sexual abuse accusations “guilty until proven innocent”, all make for a stew of emotions that can only qualify as assault, for your motif of emotions of love to be consistent.

Obviously, I don’t condone assault or abuse of any kind, but I would trade a whoopin’ by a gang of thugs with bats for the opportunity to see my eldest daughter without the emotional strain her “mother” (twice convicted of fraud, once of defrauding a church; several times shown to be lying to law enforcement; and 2 prison sentences - she retains custody) has wrought on me.

I am in a 11+ year relationship, with one very well-balanced daughter, and a son on the way. Our home would be a nurturing environment for my eldest, as opposed to a home with the “dad” that her mother is currently sleeping with.

But, of course, the mother is always best, right?
