“It Is The Soldier…”

This, from A Redleg’s Perspective:

“It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protesters to burn the flag.

FREEDOM is RED, WHITE and BLUE.”

... Lest we forget.

Will be going to my 25th consecutive celebration of Memorial day out at our VA grounds on Monday.

I have no doubts that our soldiers are the most important people in our country. However, here is the rub: best intentioned as they are, our leaders, like the one we have now, sent them into the wrong war. I protest this war, and will do my best to stop it; however, I still respect the men and women in uniform.
