For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

GIGO (Garbage In - Garbage Out), by which I mean the Clinton-era recruiting effort.

Case in point. 

With grad school coming to an end, I, with a small cadre of prior-service males, were waiting in a room for the arrival of Navy JAG recruiters.  Every one of us was Top 25 percent or higher in class standing. 

Every one of us had served at least one hitch in the Army, Navy, Coast Guard or Marines.  Sitting in back of the room were two ladies from the U.S. Virgin Islands (think ‘smoke dees Mon, you feel bettah..’ )

The recruiters came in, ignored all the white males, focused on the no-prior service females, using the word diversity five times in the first two minutes of their presentation, and for any white male prior service types who still hadn’t gotten the message, gave us hostile interviews.

The military was seeking a different breed of cat for their officer corps than the standard, prior-service, Ephraim Zimbalist Jr.-types. 

It wasn’t for the better.

Keep this in mind: under the Soviet system, the Commissar, the political overseer of any organization that was formed under the Soviet government, always had final say.  Regardless of how lunkheaded or disastrous the effect of their decision, theirs was the final one. 

As a result of Commissar decisions, millions of Soviet soldiers died in criminally stupid human wave attacks against German machine gun positions.  Millions of Soviet citizens starved because of political decisions related to agriculture, planting, cultivation, harvesting and transportation of the food.  Factories churned out millions of mismatched and unusable consumer goods—all based on Commissar political brain-dead decisions.

THAT’S what PC has become - the de-facto Commissar lording over US military and political decisions in defiance of common sense or military necessity.

Ultimately, the stupidity factor caused the USSR to collapse.  That’s where we are headed unless we regain a control over vital decision-making processes, such as officer recruitment.
