The Day After
Yesterday was a strange day. I ripped off my employer because I was more obsessed with the cap and trade thing instead of my usual bean counting. Go figure. I tried to read between the lines. I thought crazy man Gore was staying in Nashville because he didn’t want to be seen leaving the capital with a loss. I thought that the fact Earl Pomeroy and some others had defected that a large number of liberals were also going to come to their senses. I took encouragement in Rush saying that the 217 vote to send it to the floor could be all hype. Then it hit…
Hannity and Levine started warning us that we would probably lose and I started to get enraged. Of course hearing Levine smack around one of his liberal callers made me feel better and the rage went away. As a veteran and a person who is no stranger to being in the political trenches, I was upset at what they were attempting to do to our country. I’ve heard the usual “It’s just politics”. Well yeah it is politics, but when those politics come and invade my wallet and the bank accounts of my friends, I tend to get a little miffed.
I started getting a hankering for some KFC and while my wife and I were en route to some “finger licking good”, the tornado siren started going off. I was holed up in a University basement eating stale pastries and wishing I had a bucket of chicken for my ever expanding waistline and I could watch the NHL draft on TV. No such luck. Of course, I have to count my blessings that the good Lord didn’t destroy my town and my wife and I are still in one piece.
Now that all being said, I decided to do some inventorying of my “political life”. What made me what I am? Why do I listen to Scott Hennen, Rob Port, and Rush Limbaugh? Here is why:
I was there as the spotted owl crowd took over my state and crippled the timber industry. I grew up in timber land and timber money put me through school, bought my first car, and put food on my plate. Yeah, those liberals are for the common man aren’t they?
I was there when my ship refit was canceled because Clinton and the gang decided to cut up the military so they could spend on something that would screw the taxpayer.
I have a friend who works in the car industry and he told me how it is even more screwed up now then it was two months ago. This guy was strong armed into joining the UAW and now has to watch his company go right down the toilet like everything else this government touches.
I worked in places where I saw firsthand the depths that people would go to in order to take advantage of the many social programs the liberals pushed through and how brain washed they willingly became. Why work when you can sit home, play Xbox and collect a check? I’ll go collect my government check, smoke some whacky weed, and grub on some Taco Bell. Whatever, you do what you want, but don’t take it from the tax payer.
As a Christian, I have witnessed people taking shots at God, home schooling, and views that run counter culture to the nonsense being pumped out at the University.
I had never received less than an A on a term paper and on my last paper I did a Philosophy piece on Pilate and Christ. Guess what, I received a C- and was told I could be failed because I used the Bible. I had the gall to believe in God. Wow.
I was called a “faggot” because I had the nerve to drop some conservative literature off during the last campaign. Character assassination and I’m not even gay. One of my best friends came out of the closet about ten years ago and do you know what? I don’t agree with it, but I stood by him. I am not his judge. The liberals don’t know me and they don’t know you. Don’t let them define you.
The list goes on and on…
People this is my therapy session and from here on out, I’m picking it up a notch. I go to church three times a week, I am a husband, I work full time, and I like my sports. However, from now on, I’m going the extra mile. I am challenging any and all of you to do the same. If you took five minutes per day to call your Senator on cap and trade it would make a difference. Ten minutes per month to write a letter to the editor. Heck, even if you took one minute per week to call Rob Port or Scott Hennen and just tell them that you’re onboard it would make a difference. If it is at all possible to be in Bismarck July 2 for the tea party, get there. It’s going to be fun. Challenge yourself. I won’t preach it and not do it. Let’s take our country back. All of you have lived a life. Yeah it might be different than mine, but you’ll all been there. Let’s do this thing. In future blogs I’m going to looking forward and not behind. A hero on one of the 911 planes said “Let’s roll” and I couldn’t agree more. Challenge yourself and let’s take back America.
