That deafening silence is the Feminist Movement in denial.

Would someone on the left please explain to me why none of you care about women’s rights and safety when it does not put money in your purses.

Jail, flogging for Iranian women’s rights activist
By Agence France Presse (AFP)

Wednesday, July 04, 2007

TEHRAN: Iran has sentenced a women’s rights activist to flogging and almost three years in jail for taking part in a 2006 protest over “discriminatory” laws, the ILNA news agency reported on Tuesday. Delaram Ali was sentenced to 10 lashes and two years and 10 months in jail for “participation in an illegal gathering,” “propaganda against the system” and “disturbing public order,” her lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh told ILNA. Ali was one of the 70 people arrested in June 2006 in a protest at a Tehran square against articles in Iranian law which are seen as discriminating against women. “Delaram Ali’s sentence is too heavy, we will definitely protest the unlawful verdict. A flogging sentence for social and women’s rights activists is against international law,” Sotoudeh said. Several other women were sentenced to jail for taking part in the protest. Around 30 women’s rights activists - arrested while demonstrating outside the court where the five campaigners were standing trial - were detained for several days in March. - AFP

Not a word of support or outrage from NOW or Hillary or Nancy or Elisabeth or Cameron or the Right Honorable Ms Ginsberg.

Shameful does not even come close to a description of the American Women’s Rights proponents.

And does anyone really believe Delaram Ali will actually survive nearly 3 years in an Iranian prison?

Silly Hotel man, don’t you realize it’s western culture that oppresses women?

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Given that the article is dated July 4 it’s possible that the folks you mention haven’t heard the news yet.

Mike, this has been on going since last summer. I have posted on it here and at 2 other blogs. Michelle Malkin has been pushing it, and BBC has reported on this and the subsequent protests and arrests of other women rights activists in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, and several countries in north and central Africa over the last few years.

At least she isn’t about to be buried up to her waist, stripped of her clothing, and used as a target for softball-sized rocks until she is finally declared dead.

Jesus, do you guys do any research at all.

Women’s rights organizations have been decrying this for months.  It didn’t take much research to find this out, only a google search on Desaram Ali.

This from a guy who mistook Bat One and 2Hotel9 for Jesus!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

I’m sorry! You were being profane!
(I thought you were merely showing the same acumen and attention to detail as in your other posts!)

Two minutes of research.  To act like women’s rights organizations are ignorant of this issue while you try to score political points is despicable.

Lestat on July 3, 2007 at 08:45 pm

Lestat, I may be incorrect but, I think you’re missing the point. From what I understand, 2Hotel9’s prior posts and todays isn’t that the feminist groups are neglecting to report the brutality of Islamic women, (the news worthy ones anyway). The point is they report and talk about whatever may be a publicity asset to their organization.
See Lestat, the feminist organization isn’t reporting about Delaram Ali or any other woman arrested, they are reporting that a feminist was arrested and now they (they as in the feminist activists sitting safely at home in the US) can now claim a “WLP Colleague in Iran” has become victim of abuse, which entitles them to claim abuse to their organization. Another notch for undeserved victimhood. Majority of US feminists are all talk and very little action.. unless it’s an issue that will advance their organization’s propaganda

2Hotel9, You’re so right about the ignorance of the feminist organizations on this issue. NOW and other feminists spend their time whining about sexist country clubs or sexist promotions (regardless of reason). They are an embarrassment to me, not only for this shameful neglect but also for reaping significance on human rights and not on personal merit.
I view American feminists as being beyond ludicrous.  Unfortunately, NOW members and other feminists believe that women worldwide are equally oppressed. Claiming any such correlation is erroneous and appalling.
Feminists state that the oppression of women and conditions are the same in all countries.  “Whatever the nature, like stoning in one place, or mutilation in another, or gang rapes in mall parking lots.--it’s the same idea.”
I admit they have pointed out some horrors of Islamic gender fascism.... but their theory absolutely obliterates the difference between what goes on in Islamic populations and what goes on in America: (by memory only and I apologize to the forgotten author) “In Africa women continued the culture of female genital mutilation and women in the US are getting vaginal laser rejuvenation surgery, paying thousands to have their labia trimmed because they didn’t like the imbalance. Why or how do societies allow this atrocity to continue?”
The comparison value here? Absolutely none. One is culturally mandated and the other is completely and insanely voluntary. The validity of the American feminist view is not logical by any means and it’s only getting worse. Feminist organizations are very important and some rational services are obtained but, I believe they are unsuitable and unworthy of any claim to feminist concern worldwide. Again, I am embarrassed and saddened that feminist groups may talk as if they care but they display little importance on the horrific suffering of Islamic females.
If they think we have it harsh here in America then those feminists don’t deserve to live here. Feminists organizations need to take control of their priorities and acknowledge that oppression isn’t here it’s in other places of the world and that is where immense concern should be focused.

lestupid, those are all the same article. And the WLP letter has had zero(0) circulation. I actually made reference to those news articles AT THE TIME THEY CAME OUT.

Now, lesmoron, direct us to the copious and vocal TV News pieces and voluminous articles to be found in the Mainstream Media.

Oh, wait! What is that sound? Sounds to me like silence.

And to cut the legs out from under you in that other thread, Japan’s and Germany’s similarity to Iraq and Iran ended when we defeated them and helped rebuild them to sane specifications. Get a clue or shut the fuck up.

The feminists still maintain that the US is a “patriarchy”, so when a real patriarchy(Islamic culture) rears it’s head, they get conflicted.  Somehow, the “poor and oppressed” Islamic culture can’t be blamed for their patriarchy, or something like that.  I’ll let you draw the obvious conclusion about what they are really against, and it isn’t “patriarchy”.

If life doesn’t begin at conception, why do they call it birth control?

lestupid, still waiting. Where is the video link of Katie all incensed and indignant over this travesty of justice? Where is the footage of Barbara WaWa and Rosie rallying the forces of feminism to fight this obvious manifestation of patriarchal oppression? Why are Teddie and John and Harry not pounding the rostrum screeching about how it is Chimpy McHitler-Burton’s fault?

Explain to us why all your Democrat leftard heroes don’t give a fuck. Lets us hear it.

Like most leftist liberal organizations, the feminists are about achieving political power and little else although they are good at covering up their primary agendas.  They desperately want a women elected president and will support Hillary regardless of her intended mission.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

Thanks for the link, Roshy. I and my wife are already on it.

Point still stands. Women’s right advocates in America remain stunningly silent. As of this date I have seen and heard zero(0) un this or many other cases throughout the Mid-East, Africa, and Asia.
