Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Students Continues On Payroll

32-Year-Old Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Four Teen Boys

BARTOW, Fla.—A Polk County middle school teacher was arrested Thursday for allegedly having sex with young boys. Currently, 32-year-old Danielle Jones of Auburndale is still being paid by the school board.

Two of the boys were her former students and then they started sharing their sexual trysts with their friends. One of the boys told another teacher at Stambough Middle School (see map) last year. When investigators started peeling back the layers, they found there were at least three other boys Jones was allegedly having sex with.

“It’s painfully obvious to us that she is a pedophile,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

Jones was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts each of unlawful sexual activity with minors and lewd/lascivious battery.

[...] Dang right, she’s a pedophile!

Sheriff Judd said there were at least four teenaged boys, between the ages of 14 and 16, involved. Two of them were brothers who were students under Jones in 2005 and 2006, but the sexual relationship started last year when two of the boys reached out to Jones through her MySpace page.

According to the police report, when the boys contacted her through her MySpace page, she replied, “Hey baby. I just miss my boys. Ya’ll need to come see you [sic] momma soon!” When asked if she would come pick him up, along with his 15-year-old brother, who was also a student of hers, she replied, “Of course I will. Anything to see my boys that I haven’t seen for months.”

The sheriff said there was no evidence that the boys were coerced or given drugs or alcohol.

[...] No, but at 15 sex is as enticing as a drug. She is sick and she needs to be locked up just like a male pedophile would be.

“This was about sex with children by a school teacher,” Judd said.

Eyewitness News contacted the Polk County School Board. A representative refused to comment but said that Jones is still on the payroll and on administrative leave until the investigation is over.

“Teachers have an ethical and moral obligation to protect our youth, not prey upon them. We urge parents to come forward and report any suspicious activity between their children and this woman. There may be more victims out there,” Judd said.

Detectives are trying to find out if there are other students that could be victims of Jones, who is currently being held in the Polk County jail.

If she is found guilty ... will the school will be reimbursed? Yeah.. Big NO!
Wouldn’t it be smarter to withhold her pay until the investigation is over?

Innocent until proven guilty?

Yes, I agree Lestat. If she’s not guilty she gets her money. No other business would keep paying for someone that isn’t able to show up to work.
She can always be reinstated and receive her back pay.

Looks like the School district went into CYA mode and suspended her with pay pending investigation. Looks like a good choice too given that if it turns out the charges are false most states won’t allow for a minor to be dragged into court and sued. Besides, just how butt ugly would those kids have to be if THAT is the best they could find to nail?

Funny how these things don’t make the mainstream news like if it were being committed by a priest.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

AHHH, but this case involves heterosexual child molestation, those filthy religious zealots are involved in homosexual child molestation, but the MSM supports liberal views and accepts homosexuality. Clear as mud yet?

Without income, how is this woman supposed to defend herself?  She is indeed innocent until proven guilty.

If she worked for private industry the employer would have fired her for molesting a child on company time.

The burden of proof for an employer is drastically different than for a criminal court.

Without income, how is this woman supposed to defend herself?

Not the taxpayers responsibility to continue to support her.  That being said everyone gets a lawyer.

I believe the legal concept is called “due process”. Hence my first comment suggesting the school district correctly went into CYA mode. If the charges turn out to be true then as Anna clearly feels, throw the book at the woman. However, if the charges turn out to be false it will take years, if ever for the woman to recover from the damages to reputation not to mention employability in the future. The last thing this society needs is another permanent welfare recipient, this time provided by the state due to it’s lack of due diligence.

True, to an extent. Being white collar, my employer can terminate my employment for any reason it chooses at any time. However, if the reason for termination mentions due to legal charges, for which I am later exonerated in court, guess who’s going to create a severe negative impact on said companies year end numbers.

Whistler:  So you know that she did this?  Wow, I am impressed.

Do you recall the kids who recently created a false, malicious MY SPACE page about a teacher they were angry at?  They falsely accused him of being a pedophile too.

BTW, private industry does not fire people accused of crimes. They put them on paid leave. They terminate people found guilty of crimes.

...this is why most companies don’t react in such a way immediately. High profile employees, such as CEO, CFO, ect., will be reassigned to less high profile functions,...then squeezed out quietly generally as it was their choice to move on.

Not entirely true pparets, I work for one that reputation is of the utmost importance. They could, and would terminate employment if company reputation would be harmed. But, as I indicated above, they likely won’t move in that direction unless they’re damned sure their decision is the correct one.

Nobody, because you are an at will employee.  Unless they violate a civil rights law, you have no case.

However, this lady is likely under a contract.  She can’t be fired for any reason and likely cannot have her pay suspended.

Ever read a union employee contract handbook? I have. In fact I keep a copy of the current contract handbook in my desk drawer to review just because I have to occasionally deal with militant union fuckwits that have their heads burried so far up their ass and still live it convinces me that there could be life on frozen methane planets like Uranus.

YES the can be fired. Particularly, this woman could be suspended with pay, and or fired, due to the nature of her job, as she could be considered a menace to the safety of the children she’s employed to teach. But I’m in favor of paid suspension pending further investigation, if guilty, serve the time the court deems appropriate, if not, go back to work.

I don’t say she can never be fired.  But she probably cannot be fired without cause, an an accusation is not sufficient cause.

What I meant by that she “cannot be fired for any reason” was that they must have cause to fire her.

I think we are mostly in agreement about this.

FEH, I doubt it. Unless you’re terribly dyslexic I don’t see how you possibly could fuck up the statement you claim wanted to make as badly as you did. But I’m okay with with dyslexia. Having a nice weekend so far, other than dealing with an asshole like me?

Usually when I explain what at will employment is I describe it as “you can be fired for any reason” so when I was talking about not at will employment I just said “you cannot be fired for any reason.

Lestat on June 7, 2008 at 08:12 pm

Just to clarify....an “at will” employee is someone who doesn’t have the property right to the job. Probationary employess, for instance. In many states the county sheriff’s employees are at will employees who serve at the pleasure of the sheriff.

Any civil service or union employees are NOT at will employees. That means their jobs are a property right and cannot be taken without some due process and the right to appeal.

You CANNOT suspend an employee like that without pay until those due process rights are observed. To take away their pay amounts to disciplinary action before the completion of the process.

THAT’S why they have to be suspended with pay until the process is finished.

Not that it makes what she did any less criminal and reprehensible, but she is not a pedophile; that is someone who has sex with a child that has not yet reached puberty.  That’s even more disgusting, of course, but why not tell the truth; it’s bad enough.
