Surprise!  Publisher of McClellan’s book a front for…

...George Soros!

Charles Johnson (of LGF) and his reader John Williams (in Texas) dig up the link:

Public Affairs Books (editor at large Peter Osnos: About The Century Foundation.)

Public Affairs Books is owned by Perseus Book Group.

Perseus Book Group is in turn owned by Perseus Funds Group, (holding company Perseus LLC). Perseus has enjoyed growth of assets over the last 13 years of 10,000% (100 x 1995 value).

And now the bullet:
If you go to the New York Department of State web site and enter “Perseus” in the “Business Organization” search, you get this on page 2 of the results:

I’m shocked, shocked I say, to find George Soros pulling McClellan’s strings!

Does this tick you off? Click here to email your elected representatives right here on Say Anything, or comment below.

I think a bigger issue is to examine his book on the merits.  Are his accusations verifiable?

I have to admit that the assumptions he makes about meetings he wasn’t privy to makes it look like a foolish attempt to get even after being fired.

Imagine that.  Soros.  Certainly brings bias to the table.  Not being at a meeting and then speculating about what went on?!  Sounds a bit….jealous, does it not?
Personally, I would rather read non-fiction books.

Eunichized,

Rupert Murdoch operates a lot more openly than does George Soros.

Had you ever heard of Public Affairs Books prior to this book?  Any indication that they have the profit history which would indicate sufficient funds to buy such a book and publicize it to the extent that it has been?  If not, then where did the money come from?

Same place as MoveOn.org’s money did…

Whistler,

If I can lay hands on a copy without having to spend my money to do so, I’ll give it a careful read complete with notes, and comment upon what I find.  But I won’t spend any of my money for a Soros backed tome.

It was terribly difficult to find that information, wasn’t it?

And of course you failed to answer a direct question.  So I will ask again;

Does the fact that Rupert owns FOX mean that FOX News is biased, yes or no?

You guys have a terrible habit of making arguments that are nothing more than logical fallacies.

Yes. The same way MSNBC, the NY times, WSJ, the MSM, internet blogs, etc. are. Every media outlet has at least some bias to the right or left. I have never found an unbiased or fair and balanced media source. The degree of bias of each outlet is another story.

And its bologna that Rupert operates more opently than Soros.  Murdoch has his hands in a lot of pies, many of which are about as easy to find as this Soros connection.

This post is nothing but right-wing spin.

Eunichized the beardless boy blunder asks:

Does the fact that Rupert owns FOX mean that FOX News is biased, yes or no?

Rather like asking “is the moon made of blue cheese, or of stilton, one or the other now.”

Is there influence?  Certainly.  But independent research shows Fox as more evenly balanced than all of the other broadcast MSM outlets.  Same for the Wall Street Journal which NewsCorp recently purchased.

The real question for McClellan (which the press has not asked to date) is if he had any direct dealings with Soros and if there was editorial control (or “assistance”) exerted upon “his” writing.

Hows the surf?

Yes, Fox news is biased towards populism.

Murdoch is a liberal leaning, global warming believer. And he supports Hillary Clinton.

Calling FOX news conservative based on Murdoch is not only a logical fallcy…but Murdoch’s “conservatism” is quite in question.

Other than there name being similar enough that they appear on the same page, is their any evidence that Soros is involved in Perseus, LLC?  I did note that all of the companies with Soros in the name had the same service agent, while Perseus LLC did not.

Wow. I thought the lefties had really pulled a fast one by sending Scotty deep undercover in the White House where he could conduct operations and machinations too nefarious to even contemplate let alone disclose.

As an amateur stock sleuth, I’d be interested in knowing the connection between Perseus Book Group and the Perseus Funds Group. I’d also be interested in the connection between Perseus and Soros aside from the Biopharmaceutical fund that bears both names.

Anyone know off hand?

Am I to understand that the claim that Soros is behind Scotty’s book is based on the relationship between Soros and Perseus Funds and that Perseus Funds is a Soros vehicle because Perseus LLC appears on the same Page as Perseus-Soros BioPharmaceutical Fund, LP on the New York Corporations Search at the NY Dept. of State?

Try googling “soros” and “perseus funds” and find a result not related to the BioPharm Fund or the right wing blogosphere.

You guys are wrong…again. Pretty funny though.

Mike,

Try it this way instead:  First, Peter Osnos of The Century Fund.

If you go to The Century Foundation website and click on “Partners” you get this,

The Century Foundation works to translate ideas into action through partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations. We join with other organizations to produce forums and conferences, and to create task forces and special projects.

And then a list of more than 40 funds, foundations, centers and conferences, including all the usual far left suspects from People for the American Way, The Center for American Progress, and Common Cause, to The Institute for Women’s Policy Research, The United Nations Foundation, the Public International Policy Group, and George Soros’ own Open Society Institute.

Hardly definitive, but suggestive to say the least.

Next go to the Perseus Book Group website.  Click on the Public Affairs imprint and you are taken to the publicaffairsbooks, com site.  The two books at the top of the site are Scott McClellan’s What Happened, and George Soros’ The New Paradigm for Financial Markets.

Clicking on “Previously Published” brings up a rather large listing of titles and authors, including Wesley Clark, Lou Cannon, Michael Kinsley, Brian Lamb, Jim Lehrer, Vladimir Putin, Andy Rooney, and five more titles by George Soros.  Also on the list is former US Army Muslim chaplain and current Obama delegate to the DNC convention from Olympia, WA, James Yee.

Next stop is the New York SOS website listed above.  All states require that a corporation have a registered agent to accept process on behalf of the corporation.  New York State requires an in-state registered agent for those incorporated in NY as well as for those out-of-state corporations doing business in New York (referred to as “foreign” companies, LPs, or LLCs).  Note that Perseus, LLC is so listed.

Perseus, LLC is incorporated in Delaware.  At the Delaware Secretary of State website there are 151 entities with “Perseus” in their name, including the Perseus, LLC holdng company.  Many of those are shown on the main or subsidiary websites of Perseus, LLC, and the majority of those 151 list the same Delaware registered agent, The Corporation Trust Company of Wilmington.  This is more than a casual coincidence.  Because of its laws on incorporation, Delaware is the legal “home” to a substantial number of America’s larger corporations, if not an outright majority.  The registered agent business is a crowded field including a substantial number of perhaps tens of thousands of trust companies and legal firms.  The odds, then, are long indeed, that all those firms with “Perseus” in their name would have the same registered agent.

Again, not yet definitive, but well beyond your casual dismissal above.

Kenny,

The cross reference at the Delaware SOS site between Perseus Books and Perseus, LLC, is more telling than the SEC Form 10 listing you’ve cited.  Its doubtful that Mr. Soros personally signed a contract with Scott McClellan, but there’s little doubt that Soros controls the Public Affairs imprint and Perseus Books through Perseus, LLC.

Bat One on May 29, 2008 at 08:17 pm

There is no doubt that Public Affairs Books is a liberal leaning publisher. I would be surprised if Soros was not well acquainted with Frank Pearl, head of Perseus LLC. I also note that several of Soros’ books have been published by Perseus Books.

The fact remains that the only concrete relationship between Soros and Perseus seems to be the BioPharm Fund they co-manage and a couple of entities created to facilitate that arrangement. The fact that the Soros-Perseus Fund is listed on the same page as Perseus LLC at the NY site is apparently the smoking gun…which is very stupid albeit funny. You know this, I know this, everyone will know this in a day or two although there will be scant mention of it on those sites that are trumpeting it today.

That Scotty Mc chose this publisher is notable but those that accept the account RG lays out are the same people who invested in CMKM Diamonds and PCBM. It’s too laughable for words and I’m surprised that you’ve gone to the effort you have to try to make sense of it.

I’d reconsider if there was evidence that Soros has a role in any Perseus business aside from the Biotech fund but I sure can’t find it and the fact that Google is returning accounts of the “scandal” but nothing on a legitimate relationship is telling to me.

Funny stuff.

It’s speculative at best. And not terribly convincing. All the concrete ties are in pharm research. While Soros ties to MM and MoveOn are easy to spot, Mike is right. Looking at this, there is bare evidence that Soros is directly connected to Perseus books.

ellinas on May 30, 2008 at 07:58 am

A question I’d like answered is how and why McL selected his publisher. Laughs over the Soros plot to take over the world aside, it does seem an unusual choice. I know that the conservative publishing conglomerate wouldn’t be very interested in Scotty’s tell all but it seems to me that a main line publisher might be…perhaps Scotty was in a rush to print for some reason and Public Affairs satisfied the need for speed.

I still find the “research” provided by the right wing blogs to be hilariously lame.

I read a while ago that the stockholders of Costco weren’t very happy with the return on investment.

Maybe that’s all settled out by now.

It comes down to paying for productivity.  If you can get more by paying more that’s great.  But you need a return on investment to make it work.

That seems unlikely. If it bothered him so much that he could no longer be silent…then why so close to an election? Why wait til Bush was almost out of office and nothing could be done? Why not take action when there was still recourse? And why blast someone else for doing the same thing?

What is left is that Scott McClellan s a filthy liar. When the best you can come up with is “Well, sure I was lying before…but I’m not now…” the only people who believe you are those who WANT to. I find it pathetic and think he’s an attention whore. All of the claims I have heard so far are so ridiculously false as to make the rest of his trip unbelievable.

Costco is more expensive, less friendly, and leaves me less satisfied than Wal-Mart. That they pay their equally incompetant people more money makes me think they’re idiots.
