You bunch of hypocrites.

If he wasn’t an Olympic champion, most of you would call him an illegal alien and demand his deportation.

It’s still good to be an American, no matter how much you hate that, Lestat.  If this guy is an invader, he’s not really an American, is he?

I go by the Constitution.  If he is born here he is an American, regardless of the status of his parents.  You are the hypocrite.  You only love him because of his success.  If he was a construction worker you would ask for his deportation.

It’s wonderful how your hate leads you to just make up things.  I never said I loved the guy; that’s your shit entirely.  I said it’s always good to be an American, and that filled you with so much hate you just fabricated all the lies you have just spewed.  The present interpretation of the Constitution allows him to be called a citizen, but I would only deport his invader parents.

You can’t seem to stop lying, Lestat.

PP,

The thread was lame to start.  Why even start with that heading?  Why wouldn’t the guy be considered American?

The entire premise starts off with the suggestion that he is some second-class level American.  Otherwise, why even mention it?

His native blood was that of America.  He would be more true American that most on this site.

Mixed with that of the European conquerers from Spain.

Hannitized:  The title of the post speaks for itself; a message which apparently went right over your head.

It most certainly does.  It spoke to both Lestat and myself. To you, it implied that isn’t it great what can be achieved in America, as and American....even if your family were “illegal immigrants”.

That was the message of your post.  And if you didn’t mean for it to appear that way, that was how it came out.

First of all, what is the politics that you supposedly ignored (but you didn’t)?  There are so many other stories on this success that fail to touch on the subject you beat about the bush on.  Here is one example:

http://www.wlwt.com/sports/17229402/detail.html?rss=cin&psp=news

Second.  You suggest that this can only happen in America.  What does that mean?  Multiple countries have citizens who are winning medals.  Why can this only happen in America?  Your point makes no sense unless you are implying only an American who have illegal immigrants can wina gold medal.

Don’t be intellectually dishonest PP.  That is Rob’s gig, not yours.

Why is it such a crime or have to be politically motivated to be proud and love your country?

Stupid thing is people discuss it like it is a fad, is it cool to love your country…

Patriotism and Love of Country used to be something important, now people think more along the lines of, its just a place where I work and have a home, just like any where else. Nothing special.

Personally i think Americans are to sheltered, they say they are informed, and yet they act like the priveldges and rights they have are common place - nothing special.

You never know what you have....till it’s gone.

When you have the time and/or the inclination, call the Mexican consulate in Hawaii and ask them if the son of illegal immigrants would be allowed on the Mexican Olympic Team, or allowed to train, allowed to attend school or even allowed to remain in their country.

For that matter, ask yourself why Barack Obama would say that his story - and he is right! - could have happened in no other country but America.

When you have the time and/or the inclination, call the Mexican consulate in Hawaii and ask them if the son of illegal immigrants would be allowed on the Mexican Olympic Team, or allowed to train, allowed to attend school or even allowed to remain in their country.

That is a silly question.  Your question should be, does a Mexican citizen have a right to play in the Mexican Olympic team.  Anyone born in Mexico is a Mexican National!!!

This is exactly what you don’t understand.  This kid is an US Citizen!!

NATIONALITY:

According to Article 30 of the Mexican Constitution, “Mexican nationality is acquired by birth or by naturalization.”

MEXICANS BY BIRTH ARE:

· “Those that are born in the territory of the Republic, whatever the nationality of their parents.”

· “Those born outside Mexican territory of one or both parents that were born in Mexico. “

· “Anyone born outside of Mexico of one or both parents that are naturalized Mexicans”

· “Those born on board Mexican ships or aircraft.”

This means that anyone born in Mexico has Mexican nationality by the simple act of being born in Mexican territory. Anyone who has one or both parents born in Mexico is a Mexican national. There is a simple procedure for verifying this nationality. Anyone born in the U.S. that has at least one Mexican parent has dual nationality in Mexico.

According to Art. 37 of the Constitution, a Mexican cannot lose his nationality. This is part of the reforms of 1998 that permit dual nationality. Anyone that renounced his Mexican nationality to acquire another nationality can recover it, because he no longer can lose it.

I had no idea he was the son of “illegal immigrants” until this posting came up and I had to google what the controversy might be.  Otherwise, there was no reason for you to title this post as you had.

Again, I don’t care if you choose to remain ignorant of your choice of words and what the represent.  You have been given a gift to explore your thoughts and the reasons why you may think the way you do.  But you are hiding like a coward.  Note, that is “like” a coward.

I personally think you are tough enough to explore your own thouhts, but you have been lacking in this regard lately.

And secondly, I don’t care what a bunch of mid-western hacks think of me.  They are idiots PP.

You only need answer two questions:

Why could this only happen in America?

What is the politics that you are pretending to ignore?

“I’m living the American dream right now, man,” Cejudo said, wrapped in an American flag moments after his win.
“The United States is the land of opportunity. It’s the best country in the world and I’m just glad to represent it.”

http://www.latimes.com/la-spw-olywrestling20-2008aug20,0,7484793.story

For readers of this thread: If you read my original post and all of my subsequent comments, then you know I was paying homage - free of any political slant - to a remarkable kid whose achievement should make every American proud; as proud as he is to be an American living the Americn dream.  My own father, a Cuban immigrant to this country in 1928, would have agreed with young Cejudo emphatically.

Likewise, you will have noticed that no where did I claim or imply that Henry Cejudo was not a United States Citizen, or that he did not deserve to be one.

If any reader believes that any other nation’s olympic team consists of as many whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, males and females - and none barred by any religious or political barrier - as that of the United States, feel free to post that information.

I do not now, and never have, subscribed to the notion that the United States has anything to be ashamed of in it’s history of admission of immigrants. No other nation on Earth has welcomed so many diverse peoples as we have.

Likewise, any native American who has the skill and the will to succeed in this nation, has done so or will do so.

Tragically, what we have seeen revealed on this thread is the worst of liberal-mindsets: White, european America is steeped in guilt and shame and must never be allowed to take pride or satisfaction in any accomplishment, without being reminded of some imagined sin against humanity.

Despite PP’s attempt to trash the Mexican constitution with some crazy websites interpretations.  The laws granting citizenship are very open.

Here you go PP!  Instead of trashing the Mexican constitution by linking some crazy website that gives us its interpretations.  Why don’t you read it for yourself.

See Article 30.

You are welcome.  Welcome to real debate my friend.

“I’m living the American dream right now, man,” Cejudo said, wrapped in an American flag moments after his win.

“The United States is the land of opportunity. It’s the best country in the world and I’m just glad to represent it.”

Those are great quotes by a victorious American Olympic winner!!  That is what victorious American olympic winners say PP.

So why can a US Citizen who wins the Gold Medal.....only happen in America?

The first one describes your commenting style exactly; as for the second, I don’t know and I don’t care.

“Off-topic” means that you have brought the topic around to yourself and your hate for America, once again.
The topic of this thread was a celebration of American achievement, and you have tried to shit all over it with your turds of narcissistic hate.

Ok, and so what is it about my statement that relates to me and my ego?

And not only could it happen in Mexico, but you wouldn’t have Mexican citizens complaining about the “interpretations” of the Mexcian laws about anyone’s citizenship rights if their parents were from another country, legally or not.

Even though you persist in your narcisstic off-topic bullshit, you are wrong.

What does Mexican laws have to do with me?  And why do you hate invaders Robert?

and so the politics destroy the moment....  thanks for poisoning the thread, Lestat.

Letstat, like most liberals depises his own country, and gets all shitty anytime anybody says something nice about it.

This is just more predictable bile shit from Lestat, who I thank for reminding us why Democrats can’t be trusted.  If you hate your country, why should you be allowed to lead it?

Carrick on August 20, 2008 at 11:34 pm

Sanity:

Why is it such a crime or have to be politically motivated to be proud and love your country?

Simple enough.

Hannitized and Lestat hate and despise their own country, so any praise for it is necessarily political.

Carrick on August 20, 2008 at 11:37 pm

And why do you hate invaders Robert?

I don’t hate them, so you lie again.  I want to keep them out of my country, and remove the ones who are already here, along with their children.  Why do you want our country invaded, H?

If any reader believes that any other nation’s olympic team consists of as many whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, males and females - and none barred by any religious or political barrier - as that of the United States, feel free to post that information.

So you are finally pointing to the fact that your post was about race, even though you pretend this is just about being American.  Your phrase despite the politics was your tangential way of hinting at the race issue as well as the fact that his parents are illegal immigrants.

Every honest person knows this PP.  I don’t know why you just don’t learn how to be open minded enough to respond to the responses that you encouraged, accidentally or intentionally.  Show some personal responsibility.

In spite of the trivializing of Henry Cujedo’s remarkable victory in Beijing by those who want to see a political agenda in every post at SAB, I hope that thoughful Americans who read this post realize what a wonderful, uniquely American story this is.

This kid is a proud American to the core.  Savor the moment and his victory!

Straw man question.  Nobody besides you is even bringing that up…

Carrick on August 21, 2008 at 10:49 am

Carrick,

You didn’t read PP’s post.  May I remind you of this (see the bottom of his post):

Only in America could this happen.

So since this great victory was won by a US citizen, I see no point in bringing it up.  You put on top of that how great it is to be an American, “without the politics” and you have got yourself one questionable post.

I don’t doubt PP’s true intentions for a moment.  I believe he really thinks this is a great thing and he truly want’s to give this guy credit.

The problem is that he did politicize it whether he wanted to or not.  I have provided a link of a true story that touches on this success that leaves out all the bullshit.

Cujedo didn’t talk about being a minority, PP did.  He hinted about it with his words and then he emphasized it when questioned.

My question is simple.  Why can’t this just be about an US citizen winning a Gold medal for our country!!  Our country is great.  He is living the American dream, because he is an American, not some second class citizen or “minority”.

Why bring that up?

What makes America great is many things.  Americans aren’t from one ethnic background.  They are Irish, Welch, English, Scottish, Mexican, Spanish, Native American, African, Pakistani, Afghanistan, Brazilian, Hawaiian, ect. ect. ect.

This post is suggesting that America is great because it gives all these immigrants a chance at greatness.  America is great because of the immigrants.  Everyone is an immigrant in this country.

To point out one immigrant (Mexcian) over another (Irish) is pointless and quite frankly, sort of insulting.  It might not have been meant to be insulting, but it is.

Cujedo is proud to be an American because of our system and our way of life.  His success is a result of the opportunity this country brings.  But he is no different than any other Olympian from America.  Is he?

I didn’t see a minority winning this Gold Medal, I saw an American.  Only when it was brought up that there was “politics” to ignore and that “this could only happen in America” did I realize that there was some sort of controversy.

I saw an American, PP saw a minority, probably one whose parents were illegal immigrants.

This is the fundamental difference between Dems and Republicans.  Republicans think immigrants benefit from this great country, while Democrats know the country benefits from immigrants as immigrants benefit from our country.  America is a country of immigrants.
