Some Guantanamo terrorist turning up their nose at Palau; Holding out for American release?

Isn’t Gitmo supposed to be hell on Earth? Hasn’t the media and liberals portrayed it as a blight on America’s soul? Haven’t the detainees been subjected to the worst forms of abuse?

Well apparently some of the terrorists being held there don’t think so. Some of the Uighur militants who are scheduled for release have decided that a lofelong tropical vacation at US taxpayer expense isn’t good enough.

WASHINGTON—The Obama administration’s drive to close the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has hit a new snag: At least some of the 13 detainees accepted for resettlement by the island nation of Palau don’t want to go there.

[...]

In October, a federal judge ordered the men released in the U.S., finding that they should no longer remain imprisoned solely because of Washington’s inability to find a country to accept them. A federal appeals court overturned that ruling, and Congress since has acted to bar the Uighurs’ entry to the U.S.

Earlier this month, a delegation from Palau visited the Uighurs at Guantanamo and Palau’s government announced more than a week ago that it would offer them a home. But while the four bound for Bermuda arrived there within days of that agreement, those assigned to Palau have yet to leave.

After meeting with the Palauans and consulting their attorneys, the Uighurs showed little enthusiasm for transfer to the island, an administration official said.

Some of these terrorists are refusing to leave Gitmo. You’d think that if Gitmo was as awfull as the media portrays, anyplace would be better. But the Uighurs are holding out for an American or European vacation instead.

Nury Turkel, former president of the Uyghur American Association and a lawyer in Washington, said the Uighur detainees would prefer to be resettled in the U.S. or Europe, where there are Uighur communities. Although Bermuda

And…

A U.S. official said about 50 of the 229 detainees at Guantanamo have been cleared for release. Dozens have preferred to remain at Guantanamo rather than be repatriated to countries where they expect to be persecuted, the official said.

If these terrorists, and their domestic progressive boosters, have their way…some of the terrorists now in Gitmo could be coming to your neighborhood.
