Solar System Warming… Wonder What the Connection Is?

There is an interesting article on Fox News Scientists Debate Sun’s Role in Global Warming.

Earth is heating up lately, but so are Mars, Pluto and other worlds in our solar system, leading some scientists to speculate that a change in the sun’s activity is the common thread linking all these baking events.

Of course, the global warming jihadists are confused over what the link could be.  Says Benny Peiser, a social anthropologist (and therefore an expert on planetary climatology):

Global warming on Neptune’s moon Triton as well as Jupiter and Pluto, and now Mars has some [scientists] scratching their heads over what could possibly be in common with the warming of all these planets ... Could there be something in common with all the planets in our solar system that might cause them all to warm at the same time? [...] I think it is an intriguing coincidence that warming trends have been observed on a number of very diverse planetary bodies in our solar system,” Peiser said in an e-mail interview. “Perhaps this is just a fluke.

Perhaps the Sun could be responsible for it?  Of course, I’m no social anthropologist, so I’m in no position to judge Peiser.  wink

That’s an hilarious article Carrick.

It’s quite the coincidence that all of these things that warm up a planet are showing up at the same time.

I also find it funny that a solar variation of 1 tenth of a percent is irrelevant but an increase in greenhouse gases of the same magnitude is a disaster.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

I’d be interested to see if earths’ raised temperatures correlate proportionally with the warming of the other planets. Do you know if anyone has done this study?

The article said that one of the scientists said it did.

Just read the rest, didn’t see it the first time. Yes. The others shouted him down pretty well though.

Shouted down, did not refute.

There is a difference.

I’m not disagreeing. Hence why I said that.

This is a good question.

We’ve only recently been able to directly measure the temperature on any other planetary body.  It’d be interesting to do a core ice study on Mars for temperature and see if it tracks that of the Earth.  That’ll probably have to wait until we get people on Mars.

I agree.  We can’t accurately model the net effect of a change in solar irradiance over time (nor for that matter changes in CO2 concentration level), so who is to say which is more important?

Yeah but the combination could be fatal… we just don’t know

So… the Sun… might have something to do… with… global warming???

That’s just silly!  Bah!

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

H. L. Mencken

Of course there seems to be correlation between what happens on the sun (see Move_Zig on February 6, 2007 at 11:44 am) and what happens on Earth, and the rest of the system for that matter.

But that would work against the hype the UN/Leftist (but I repeat myself) -types would have us believe.

The Left are always creating an emergency and offering themselves additional powers and tax money as a solution.

For as long as tyrants sought power from within a free system, they have used emergency powers to sweep away the last vestiges of freedom.  Hitler did it with the burning of the Reichstag, and mini-emergencies have been used to ram through legislation sweeping away rights of civilians to own guns (Scotland, England, Australia, New Zealand and almost the USA in the wake of Columbine).

The Left have lied about Violence Against Women, Pollution, Endangered Species, Guns and a whole raft of other aspects, but only since the advent of the internet have they begun to be revealed widely as liars.

Global warming is just the latest pretext begging to be Swiftboated.

Women don’t get battered by power obsessed men? Pollution doesn’t exist? and There are no endangered species? I refer you to my question about the Flat Earth Society.

In my opinion its more about the fact that they say give us this and it will fix the problem.

Predictably it fails to fix the problem and they demand we give up more.

I think MZ was more referring to the fact that they exaggerated and misrepresented the problem (and solution) that it’s tantamount to lying.

But he can answer for himself.

MOF&L,

Certainly, there is pollution and there is Violence Against Women and there are species hunted or polluted near to extinction, but it’s in the causes and the degrees that the Left have lied about each various emergency.  In many cases they aren’t off by a tad, but on orders of magnitude. When caught lying they have a few stock responses:

1) counter-attack the accuser by questioning the accuser’s intelligence, sanity or say that they cannot be believed due to bias (and still leave unaddressed the vast differences in objective figures and the ones they are trumpeting);

2) ignore it and change the subject.  MoveOn.org is a fine example of ignoring and changing the subject;

3) in that rare—very rare indeed—instance of candor, and they admit mistakes were made, they justify their vast-overinflations-tantamount to lying as still being noble and justified, the gravity of the situation needed big figures to get peoples’ attention.

The methodology is too consistent to be coincidence—the Left Lies—that’s what they do.

Anything is justified to gain and maintain power.

I am a Constitutionalist and I think we might agree that the Patriot Act is an invitation to tyranny, wrapped up in the flag.  It’s too much.  It gives government far too many unfettered un-Constitutional powers.

Have you ever seen a politician (Left/Right) who doesn’t lie - to one degree or another?
The left certainly do have a lot to answer for in overemphasising a lot of issues for their own gain, but then, the right will often play down an issue because it doesn’t fit into their world-view. Swings and roundabouts.

No. Why? You know of one?

Got to agree, Patriot Act is a terrible weapon in the wrong hands. And the “wrong hands” are fighting desperately to regain control of our government.

spark, I don’t like politicians or lawyers. Period.

I trust a Republican before a Democrat any day of the week. Twice on Wednesday, because it sucks.
