Social Conservatives are Feedom Stompers

So anyway, I am against so-called hate speech laws and hat crime laws. I am also against censorship, be it the titty of Lady Justice or Nicole Richie saying the f-word at the Golden Globes or ‘fleeting images of nudity’. But the Christian communists and their ilk are just deranged over not being able to control what is shewn on TV. Let’s face it, if it were up to Ashcroft, lady justice would look like this.

Its no surprise that the FCC chases after the television networks for cuss words and ‘fleeting nudity’. Thank god some actual conservatives from the second circuit rendered this decision. Judge Pooler:

We find that the FCC’s new policy regarding “fleeting expletives”
represents a significant departure from positions previously taken by the agency and relied on by
the broadcast industry. We further find that the FCC has failed to articulate a reasoned basis for
this change in policy.

But now there’s more.

In an unusually aggressive step, Fox Broadcasting yesterday refused to pay a $91,000 indecency fine levied by the Federal Communications Commission for an episode of a long-canceled reality television show, even as the network fights two other indecency fines in the Supreme Court.

The FCC proposed fining all 169 Fox-owned and affiliate stations a total of $1.2 million in 2004 for airing a 2003 episode of “Married by America,” which featured digitally obscured nudity and whipped-cream-covered strippers.

Fox appealed immediately after the FCC ruling. Last month—four years later—the FCC changed its mind, saying it would fine only the 13 Fox stations located in cities that generated viewer complaints about the program. That reduced the fine to $91,000.

Despite the sharp reduction, Fox said it would not pay the fine on principle, calling it “arbitrary and capricious, inconsistent with precedent, and patently unconstitutional” in a statement released yesterday.

Even the ACLU is on board. Well, I’m with Fox and the ACLU. Still, I bet this stuff just deranges all those Ashcroft-esque Christian communists out there. Just a friendly reminder to all those friends of ‘social conservatives’… Next time you hear them griping about this stuff, tell them they are freedom stompers and tell them to STFU, sit down, and enjoy the depravity…

its ‘the cost of freedom’!

Comments

Conservatives support individual independence.  Get a clue, Sparkie!  You’re just doing your rebellious adolescent babbling about “authority”, again.  Quelle boring!

The cost of freedom is the ability of a child to turn on the tv and see what Sparkie?  Would you draw any line on content?  What is not okay to air on broadcast television?  Anything?  Are all attempts at decency anti-freedom in your world?

Look whose side you are on. Its a Christian commie line.

They’re fuming over the TV comedy “Family Guy.”

“It’s incredibly offensive,” as Fay Hauer of Zillah puts it.

“Family Guy” is a 30-minute cartoon about a fictitious, dysfunctional family. Original shows air here weekly on Fox TV, Channel 41, while syndicated reruns air Monday through Saturday on KIMA-TV, Channel 29. It’s also carried most days on TBS and Comedy Central on Charter Cable.

It was one of those reruns, airing at 7 one evening in late June, that propelled Hauer’s group into action.

The episode, in which two characters join the Army and end up fighting in Iraq, contained this line:

“The Army’s great! You get to save money for college, there’s free food and all the brown people you can rape.”

Hauer was horrified.

“It’s sexist and racist and very insulting to the military,” she fumed.

The mother of two grown daughters, Hauer immediately contacted about 25 people to tell them what she’d heard. Then she fired off an e-mail to KIMA asking the station to remove show from the airwaves.

She argued that “Family Guy” is not a children’s show, and a number of youngsters watch TV at 7 p.m.

She also stressed that many parents assume the show is benign because it’s a cartoon and don’t monitor its content.

Hauer’s was one of several critical e-mails KIMA received about “Family Guy,” according to Ken Messer.

Acting as a community liaison for KIMA while he transitions to general manager for Yakima’s public television station, KYVE, Messer answered Hauer, saying that he essentially agreed with her.

“It ("Family Guy") is a very irreverent approach to programming, what we term a very ‘edgy’ type broadcast,” wrote Messer. “I also do not view this (or many other programs now on all television) for that very reason and do not allow my grandchildren to view either when they are at our home.”

In an interview for this story, Messer said he’s sympathetic to the group’s concerns, but thinks parents need to know what’s playing on TV.

“I believe there needs to be more parental control,” Messer said.

Certainly “Family Guy” hasn’t been immune to criticism. Launched in 1999, the show has been canceled twice because of low ratings but resumed production in 2005 and is now in syndication.

Nothing is sacred on “Family Guy,” which has made fun of various religions, gays, Young Republicans, AIDS and the developmentally disabled. The show has also been the target of at least three high-profile lawsuits.

That’s why a prominent disclaimer urges parental guidance at the start of “Family Guy,” Messer pointed out.

“Studies have shown that disclaimers are quite effective,” he noted.

But that doesn’t appease Hauer. A retired teacher who is bilingual in Spanish, she asserts that many Valley parents don’t speak English and may be unaware of what their youngsters are watching and hearing.

Actually, most statues of Themis (Justice) known to the Greeks show her clothed.  The only goddess typically shown au naturel was Venus.

Is it so wrong for someone to want to portray this in a historically accurate way, the way of those whose thinking led to our liberty?  BTW, Sparkless, since Ashcroft didn’t put Justice in a burqa, you’ve just committed the crime of “libel.”

You see, those who understood liberty (that would exclude Sparkless) have historically known that there were certain costumes and conduct that were not appropriate for public consumption.  That parents do have the right to expect that children’s innocence not be assaulted when they watch broadcast TV.

i might be wrong, but i dont remember any other United States AGs attempting to shroud statues. refresh my memory.

Well, there you go; Ashcroft was the first one in a long time to figure out that Justice didn’t go around with a boob hanging out in Greek mythology and artistic rendering.  We should be proud of that, and we shouldn’t libel Mr. Ashcroft by accusing him of putting Justice in a burqa, right?

RIGHT?

Sparkie,

I was unaware I was choosing a side.  Instead, I was responding to your statement.  Care to answer the questions I asked?

I like family guy, well, most of it.

HG on August 1, 2008 at 12:08 pm

Words for thee but not for me.  There are a few permutations negroid for negro, but those words would probably be banned on live TV and radio which is what this is about.  The FCC grants licenses to open air broadcasts that anyone, including children can hear.

I agree with that.

I do not agree with any government censorship of closed media such as cable and/or satellite that a person subscribes to.  Nor do I think that conversations over the phone or internet or backyards should be censored by our government.
It is free speech, is it not?

I await your response to my complexion post.

Communism is evil

Chief RZ on August 1, 2008 at 12:26 pm

Sparkie, it is good that you are against “hate crimes”. Likening Christians to Communists, though? Communism (leftism) is rampant with liberals, not conservatives. The word you were looking for is “fascists”, though I would disagree. Just correcting your nomenclature.

Are you libertarian? If so, you have a lot more in common with conservatives than liberals....

Cheers!

James Kuhn on August 1, 2008 at 05:33 pm

I said communist for a reason. Medieval Christians were just that. Proto communists. Would you prefer religious extremists who wish to foist their shoddy old manners on all who they possible can, out of the good of their heart?

Apostles 2

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and in fellowship [...] 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things in common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

Acts 4

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. 36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, 37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Sparkie Arbuckle on August 2, 2008 at 04:47 am

Sparkie,

I was aware of Acts 2, and the “communism” therein. Some prefer to call it “communalism” in this case, to differentiate between the modern idea of communism and its inextricable associations with Marxism.

Note that even in one of the most utopic situations of small government experimentation in literature, that the commune did not work. Man, even devout man, is flawed, and listens to a sin nature.

I was thinking about your post that elicited my response. The difference between censorship among fascists and leftists is not totally different; I think that fascists censor things that are socially opposed, while leftists censor things that are politically opposed - “unorthodox” thought, a la 1984…

James Kuhn on August 2, 2008 at 12:24 pm

JK: I agree.  Communalism is the wish to voluntarily do things together, out of shared values.  Communism, on the other hand, requires “the dictatorship of the proletariat” and State ownership of everything, including the people.  The Big Lie of communism is that the State is the people, but it’s really the ruling elite who own everything.  Big difference.

No, moron!  Once the ruling elite takes power, there is no chance of volunteering; it’s mandatory.  Just like you lefties with your mandates.  Are you familiar with the Marxist belief in “the dictatorship of the proletariat”?

Sparkie Arbuckle on August 3, 2008 at 06:03 pm

Sparkie: Since you are apparently ignorant about the nature of communism, let me ‘splain it to you.  Even your Messiah, Karl Marx, realized his bullshit would have to be implemented by violent revolution, so your adolescent fantasy about voting is completely stupid.  Furthermore, what part of “the dictatorship of the proletariat” don’t you understand?

Are you so confused you think dictatorship somehow involves voting and consent?

robert108 on August 3, 2008 at 06:15 pm

your Messiah, Karl Marx

Karl Marx did good developing statistical methods of analysis. I don’t agree with his simpleton historical analysis though. He ignores many variables for the being the pioneer of the use of probabilistic laws. Some of his metatheory had a big influence on Maxwell who applied it to physics. As far as ‘messiah’ goes, that’s just some straw man you have been molesting (like Foley does to little boys) since I began commenting on this blog.

For more information, see “The Idea of Statistical Law in Nineteeth Century Science” by W. Krajewski in Methodological and Historical Essays in the Natural and Social Sciences Cohen and Wartofsky (eds) D.Reidel Pub. vol 60, 1974.

Yeah, Sparkie, and even Hitler made the trains run on time.  Marxism is responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths since its inception.  Marx was a monster, no matter how much you try to apologize for him.

BTW, liar, Mark Foley never “molested little boys”.  You just can’t stop lying, I guess.

No it isn’t; your argument is ridiculous.  Karl Marx and his terrorist ideology is not a “gun”, which is an inanimate object.  You really are that stupid, I guess.
Marxism has no other purpose than to overthrow and destroy all who differ with it.  Wake up!!!!

Your inability to reason is noted.  I stand for the US Constitution, the founding principles, personal, economic, religious and political freedom, as well as individual independence, all of which are diametrically opposed to the ideology of your Messiah, Karl Marx.

Social Conservatives are Feedom (sic)Stompers

If by “Feedom” you mean taxes, then I’d agree with you! If you meant to type “Freedom”, then you should consider all of the Liberal Freedom stompers, like those who want to institute hate (thought) crimes, speech codes, bans on tobacco, and firearms in the face of a Constitutional amendment protecting them, bans on perfumes and after shaves in some locales, not to mention the pie-throwing screamers who want to deny simple freedom of speech to conservatives on college campuses.

Attempting to cast social conservatives in a role shared by the liberal left is a one man (one person?) circle jerk. Good luck with that!

Actually, I like your accidentally coined phrase!

With Liberals, you get Feedom, with Conservatives, you get Freedom!

Heh.

Sparkie, so it’s somehow OK to libel Mr. Ashcroft by suggesting he’d do something he clearly had a chance to do, but didn’t?

Sorry, Sparkless, but all functioning republics in history have realized that certain constraints on behavior are necessary for a degree of liberty to continue.  One of those constraints is that there are limits on how much skin adults can show in public, especially when children are around.

You do a great job of admitting that you know little or nothing about history, by the way.  Maybe instead of proving it again and again, you would do well to pick up a book and remedy this deficiency.
