So much for “Gender Equality”…

A woman who became pregnant after a one-night stand has been given the right to keep the birth a secret from the father.

The Court of Appeal ruling came after a county court ordered the 20-year-old to tell both her parents and the father.

The three appeal judges agreed ”the ultimate veto” over who is told about the birth lay with the mother.

You’re only a father when she says you’re a father.  Otherwise, you’re just a sperm donor.

Reproductive “choice” for men begins and ends at penetration.

And if she wants it, he will have to pay child support for a kid he was never told about.  There is no “Equal Protection” for fathers.

Robert108: Worse, much worse, the fetus is only a human being if she wants to bring it to term, otherwise it is only a clump of tissue not unlike a tumor. The man is denied seeing, raising and loving his child unless the woman says it is human, the man has no responsibility unless she says she’ll bring it to term and then he gets to pay support, but usually has little if any role in raising the child as the courts tend to give the woman primary custody.

Can we all sing: “It’s a fair world after all, it’s a fair world after all, it’s a fair world after all depending on what the woman decides about the life in her womb!”

Based on this decision, the father is absolved of all culpability in the matter. Right?

WRONG! He is absolved only if and when the slut says so! <- Wow was that ever rude and unkind? Yep! Meant it that way!

What if he wants to be a dedicated father to the child?  Isn’t that ultimately the best thing for the child?  Are we, as a society, so infected with angry feminism that we deny the value of fatherhood?  Looks like it.

Wow, a male who has sex should have rights, but a female who has sex is a slut.  Very good. Neiman, I thought better of you.

And by the way, in THIS case, which is what 2hotel9 asked about, YES, the father is absolved of all responsibility. The child is being put up for adoption, by its adult mother.  To force her to tell her devorced parents and the childs father would have simply compounded the entanglements and enriched lawyers.

Welcome to British Common Law, the foundation of our legal system.

Yes, I know it was unkind and I repent of being rude; but it was my desire to demonstrate that in this case the man was considered just a passing seed donor with no rights whatsoever, while the woman was viewed as some kind of a saintly mother completely absolved of her role in the sexual encounter, given complete rights over the life of child to play god and deny the father his child. If she had enough maturity to engage in premarital sex absent adequate protection then she should have been forced to face the parents and the father with her pregnancy and accept the consequences of her actions. People would get mad at her, she would feel bad, others would try to influence her decision, too damn bad!

Until she changes her mind, and decided to keep the child.

Then she’ll name him, and hit him for 18 years of child support.  And the court will support her decision.

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Lady Justice Arden said the father’s rights had not been violated because he did not have any to violate.

That is just wrong!  BOTH parents have rights and responsibilities to their child once it is born - why is it only the mother who has any rights during the pregnancy while the father still has the responsibilities?

Yep, it’s all about abortion.  I’m gonna barf now.

Well, keep in mind that y’all are argueing British law.  Even though it IS the foundation of our judicial system (the Constitution, itself, assumes it) our laws and rulings have led us on a slightly divergent path from Briton, as well it should.  Our courts might or might not rule the same way.  (and in fact, I think they have ruled both the same way and opposite this ruling, at different times.) Once you get tangled up in the court system, it is always a crap shoot.

A bull’s parental responsibilities begin and end when copulation is over.
A lion will copulate and get out of the way.

I’m not so sure that a lion is an appropriate example here.

A male lion will actually kill the cubs of a lioness, an act which for some reason forces her to go into heat, so that he can copulate with her and produce his own offspring.

Since ellinas is such a nature buff, perhaps he would prefer the black widow method?

This is just feminist revenge for the days when a man could father children and then just walk away, forever.

These days, a man is held responsible for the children he fathers.  Unless, of course, SHE doesn’t want him to be.  She can cut him off completely, or kill his child, or hold him responsible.  It’s all 100% HER choice.

This is what passes for “gender equality” these days.  Women have the rights, men have the responsibiity.

If a man wants a child or to exercise his parental rights, then he should marry first before having them. There is a way that avoids the grief and “injustice” that is the subject of this thread.

Otherwise, he is just a fool.

Charlie on November 25, 2007 at 09:01 am

Charlie: It’s not the same for a woman, which is the point of this thread.  What part of “no gender equality” and “equal protection under the law” don’t you understand?

My wise grandfather told me once: “Son, be carefull were you put your dick and your signature. You may get burned if either one is placed without any thought about repercusions”

ellinas on November 25, 2007 at 02:10 pm

It’s absurd to think the biological father doesn’t have more rights than any prospective adoptive parents.
Granted, I don’t know the full story and perhaps the father is made up of non-parental materials, who knows, but what gives the court the right to deny him the right to say yes or no prior to adoption?
I am hoping there is a lot more to the story that makes this ruling justified to the life of this child.
