Judiciary Chairman Forces 76 Case Per-Day Review Of Judge Sotomayor’s Record While Comparing It To Judge Roberts’ 6 Case Per-Day Schedule

Judge Sonia Sotomayor – 76 Cases Per Day:• 76 cases per day: Not including unpublished opinions, legal work, and other writings, Senators and staff must thoroughly review 76 cases per-day in order to be prepared for Judge Sotomayor’s hearings.
Judge Sotomayor has decided 3,625 cases to date [as of 5/26/2009] on the Southern District of New York and the Second Circuit. If the hearings begin on July 13, as Sen. Leahy announced today, there would be 48 days between Judge Sotomayor’s nomination and the date of her hearing.
Justice John Roberts – 6 Cases Per Day:

Leahy, Press Conference, 7/19/05)• 6 cases per day: During the Roberts nomination, the Judiciary Committee reviewed 327 cases decided by Judge Roberts while on the D.C. Circuit in the 55 days between his nomination announcement and the Judiciary Committee hearing.
If you do the math, the gop is proposing a 604 day wait before even beginning her confirmation hearing.
