Seattle Mayor Bans Guns On City Property

Because, if the mayor makes it a law, the criminals will obey? rolleyes

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has signed an executive order that asks all departments to come up with a plan within 30 days to ban guns at all property owned by the city.

The mayor’s office says a public hearing will be held to gather comment on today’s order but it does not require city council approval.

Nickels says the added gun restriction is needed because of a shooting at last month’s Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center that wounded two people.

Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske says the mayor’s order will help protect people at civic events.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I’m fairly sure banning weapons would not have stopped this man from bringing one.
Prohibiting weapons will only make the innocent become the prey

My cringing apology from my post:

Anna....

Arghh! Once again you beat me to a post and I didn’t see it. As somewhat of an excuse - if you notice the light posting on my part its because I’ve been busy as hell and haven’t really had time so I’m posting on the fly this week.

Didn’t see your post before I did this one. My most humble apologies, ma’am.

Great minds think alike, though. I note that your take on it is the same as mine.

They should just make it illegal to discharge firearms in the city. This is too much. How does the state law overlap? Will they be providing lock boxes for those traveling through the city? Bogus. How does the eastern half of the state feel.

Heh, city property huh? Does that include city police squad cars, city police stations, on duty city police officers, city side walks, etc. I hope the mayor thought this one through carefully otherwise it looks like teh mayor just neutered his police force.

I’m pretty sure what he’s doing goes against Washington State law.  They have their own laws protecting the right to bear arms.

Scott,

Those on the Left have always been highly selective when it comes to recognizing higher authority than their own

In the case of the City of Seattle, the so-called “Sanctuary Ordinance” (#1210630) is another example, albeit one with more brutally tragic consequences than mere political correctness.

I was instantly reminded of the piece last night on Nightline about school shooters.  One was asked what he’d do if his school had a metal detector at the time… he said he’d just shoot the guard and walk right into the school.  After that college shooting in Illinois this past winter, that dillhole Nancy Grace suggested that every college campus have a metal detector and a guard at every public entrance.  I guess she didn’t realize this would number well into the tens of thousands.

What would I do if I was hellbent on killing and I came upon a guard with a metal detector?  Make him my first victim and keep moving.

This mayor in Seattle is just another dillhole who thinks banning weapons will solve anything.
